Underground Electrical Fault Causes Smoke, Panic in Nakhon Ratchasima
A damaged underground power line caused smoke and boiling-water-like noises at a home in Nakhon Ratchasima, sparking panic. Officials cut the electricity, stopping the hazard, and electricity authorities are inspecting the system. Residents are warned not to approach or dig near such signs and to report them immediately.
On November 4, 2026, a shocking incident occurred at a house in Dan Chak subdistrict, Non Thai district, Nakhon Ratchasima province. Mr. Suteep (surname withheld), 72, the homeowner, discovered plumes of smoke erupting from underground near a banana tree, accompanied by a loud noise resembling boiling water. The incident caused great panic among the household and neighbors, as the cause was unknown and they feared danger. Following the incident, Mr. Suteep coordinated with the Dan Chak Subdistrict Administrative Organization to send officials to inspect. Officials surveyed the area before examining the spot where smoke billowed and the boiling-water-like noise emanated near a wall line. They then excavated the area until they found a damaged and severed electrical wire underground. Officials immediately flipped the circuit breaker, cutting the power, which stopped the boiling-water-like noise and smoke plumes. Preliminarily, the cause is suspected to be electrical leakage or a damaged wire causing heat buildup, resulting in smoke billowing from underground. However, electricity authorities were coordinated with to inspect the wiring system thoroughly to prevent recurring danger. Mr. Suteep stated that before the incident, he saw smoke billowing from underground and heard a noise like boiling water, which greatly startled the household. They did not know what to do, having never encountered such an event before, and did not know the cause, so they hurriedly coordinated with the Dan Chak SAO to send officials to investigate until the root cause was found to be a damaged electrical wire underground, which eased everyone's concerns somewhat. Officials also warned the public that if they see smoke billowing from the ground or hear abnormal noises near power lines, they should not touch or excavate themselves. They should immediately notify relevant agencies to inspect, to prevent danger from electrical leakage which could be life-threatening.
