Parliament Committee Erupts as Bhumjaithai MP Challenges Chair's Authority
A parliamentary committee meeting on legal affairs descended into a shouting match between Bhumjaithai MP Natthawut Prasertsuvan and committee chair Rangsit Rom of the People's Party. Natthawut accused Rangsit of authoritarian behavior and monopolizing power over procedural documents, while Rangsit dismissed the challenge and pressed ahead with the agenda on anti-corruption and digital asset regulation.
The House Committee on Law, Justice and Human Rights convened at 9:30 a.m. on November 4, 2026, at Parliament, with People's Party list MP Rangsit Rom chairing. The agenda covered proactive legal policy studies and follow-up on legal enforcement related to bribery allegations in online gambling crackdowns, anti-money laundering measures, digital asset business oversight, and cross-border grey capital issues. High-ranking officials including the Prime Minister, Digital Economy and Society Minister, DSI Director-General, Cyber Crime Investigation Police Commander, NACC Secretary-General, AMLO Secretary-General, SEC Office Secretary-General, Revenue Department Director-General, and Bank of Thailand Governor were invited to provide clarification, along with Bhumjaithai MP Suchada Sangtang and her husband Thayang Sang.
Before the session, a verbal clash erupted when Suphan Buri MP Natthawut Prasertsuvan of Bhumjaithai challenged operational guidelines signed by House President Sophon Saran that had been placed in the meeting room. He demanded to know how the documents entered without a committee resolution. Rangsit replied he was unaware but would discuss the matter during the designated agenda. Natthawut retorted, "How did this document get here? Why are you acting so authoritarily? You say others are authoritarian, but you're even more so — you're concentrating all power yourself." Rangsit responded that the issue required lengthy discussion and added, "You can't just do whatever you want." Natthawut shot back, "I'm not doing whatever I want — are we about to violate regulations?" Rangsit then reasserted control and moved the meeting forward.
