Lawmaker Accuses Opposition of Political Games in Parliament Committee
Bhumjaithai Party MP Supachai Chaisomut accused opposition colleague Rom of turning a parliamentary law committee into a political spectacle by attempting to summon the Prime Minister over a local‑government recruitment issue. He said the committee meeting descended into chaos after he boycotted the session, and that he would ask the House Speaker to rule whether the committee chair exceeded his authority. The dispute highlights ongoing tensions between government and opposition members in the House committee system.
Supachai explained that the committee was to discuss the 2026‑2029 local‑government recruitment process, for which an order had been issued calling the Prime Minister to brief the committee. The Prime Minister responded with two letters to the committee chair and the House Speaker, requesting a review under Article 90, paragraph 4 of the House’s regulations, of whether summoning the PM falls within the committee’s mandate. He said six government‑aligned members and some opposition lawmakers agreed the summoning appeared to breach procedural rules, so they boycotted the meeting, while the opposition‑dominated committee tried again to issue a summons but could not reach a resolution. Supachai warned that if the chair acted beyond his legal authority, it would harm the committee’s work, the House, and the public, and that he and the majority would ask the House Speaker to settle the dispute quickly.
