Deputy Governor Pornprom Vikitsareth told reporters on September 10 at Parliament that Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has instructed district offices to inspect all data centers in the capital ahead of a summary announcement on Friday, September 11, focusing on electricity and water consumption. A preliminary survey by the Digital Economy and Society Ministry working with Bangkok City Hall identified 49 facilities: six standalone buildings with existing permits, ten others on government property, and 33 on private premises. When asked about zoning requirements to protect neighboring communities, Pornprom said officials are waiting for a clear definition from the data center policy committee, expected within about a month. He noted that most existing facilities use moderate utility volumes because environmental impact assessments are already required, and the city will coordinate with the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC) to evaluate further impacts. Officials have also examined backup fuel storage at single-building data centers that lease server space to third parties, particularly those providing commercial services.
