Bangkok Plugs Oil Leak Under Rama III Bridge
Bangkok authorities plugged an oil leak in the drainage system near Rama III Bridge on the third day of response efforts, with officials locating the breach source and halting supply to reduce contamination.
On September 9, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt visited the site to oversee response efforts to oil contamination in the drainage system near Fuel Street and under the elevated Rama III Bridge at the junction of Khlong Toei and Yan Nawa districts.
Bangkok has coordinated with the Ministry of Energy, oil companies, and relevant agencies to tackle the oil contamination in the drainage system around Fuel Street and Rama III. This marks the third consecutive day of response operations.
Currently, oil supply has been halted and pipeline pressure reduced, resulting in decreased oil volume and odor in the area. Equipment for suctioning and managing residual oil is being prepared.
Officials are rapidly opening two underground pipeline inspection areas to locate the leak source and carry out targeted repairs with expert assistance.
Safety remains paramount, with continuous monitoring of vapor levels and explosive limits. The public is urged to avoid smoking, creating sparks, and entering the controlled zone.
The cause of the leak remains under investigation. Bangkok has established an emergency command center coordinating all agencies to monitor the situation until the area returns to normal conditions.
