Third Crew Member From Sunken Fishing Boat Found 80km Away
20 Jul Khaosod

On July 20, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., volunteers from the Sawaang Bun Trat Foundation received word from fishermen of a body floating in the sea near Ban Yai Mom, Laem Ngob Subdistrict, Laem Ngob District, Trat Province. Rescue workers were immediately dispatched and discovered the remains of a male victim floating approximately 2 nautical miles from the Chumphon Bridge. The body was severely decomposed with only the skull remaining, and the victim was wearing only green underwear. Rescuers recovered the remains at the Laem Ngob Bridge area for identification. The boat owner, Amnaj Sudsongwan, identified the victim as Wanthong Nuan, 44, an engine mechanic aboard the Chok Kannya.

The Chok Kannya disaster occurred on July 10 when the fishing vessel sank approximately 3 nautical miles from Koh Kood in heavy seas at a depth exceeding 25 meters. Five crew members, including the captain, were lost. On July 17, two bodies were found on Koh Kood's beach: Tit Yim, 47, a Cambodian crew member, and Taddatetep Puttakhet, 31, the boat's captain. Today's discovery of Wanthong is the third victim, found in the Chong Chang area between Koh Chang and Laem Ngob, more than 80 kilometers from the sinking site. Two crew members, Chueuan and Lan Tum, remain missing.

Trat Fishery Association Chairman Narong Chaisiri stated that with three confirmed deaths and two still missing, all five are presumed dead. The boat had departed for fishing and refueling when severe weather struck, causing it to sink. The association and boat owner will coordinate with relevant agencies to provide assistance and compensation. Each family will receive approximately 700,000–800,000 baht in insurance benefits, provided they can prove legitimate blood relation to the deceased. Two other missing crew members were initially reported found in Cambodian waters but were confirmed not to be them. If declared missing, legal proceedings must be initiated to confirm death before compensation can be processed. The sunken vessel will be salvaged to preserve evidence for investigation. Trat fishermen are advised to monitor weather forecasts before heading to sea.

Contractor Sues School Over 57 Million Baht Construction Debt

Contractor Sues School Over 57 Million Baht Construction Debt
20 Jul Khaosod

Construction contractor Jennamon Rueangsuwan has filed a complaint with the police to accuse a well-known company and a board member identified as Ms. A of defaulting on a 57 million baht loan used for purchasing equipment and constructing an international school between October and November 2024.

On July 20, 2025, Jennamon explained that he was approached to build the international school and agreed to help because both his sons were students there. Confident in the school's management and stability, he decided to lend the school money for construction and equipment purchases totaling approximately 57 million baht.

"On July 7, 2024, I issued an invoice for 25,159,200 baht, but the school failed to pay," Jennamon said. "Later we signed a contract for an additional 32,126,717.78 baht, with the school agreeing to pay 500,000 baht monthly. The total debt is 57,285,917.78 baht. The school made partial payments of 3 million baht, but then sent a letter refusing to pay the July 15, 2025 installment. After that, I couldn't reach anyone at the school and got no response to any proposals."

The contractor is seeking compensation of up to 72 million baht, including unpaid work and lost business opportunities. However, he may be open to settling for the full 57 million baht to resolve the matter amicably without damaging the school's reputation among parents.

Opposition Leader Attacks Government Over Senate Vote-Rigging Case

Opposition leader Nathpong Ruangpanyanuwit challenged the government's anti-corruption credibility, citing the Senate vote-rigging case as evidence that high-level officials receive preferential treatment. He warned of potential no-confiden

Opposition Leader Attacks Government Over Senate Vote-Rigging Case
20 Jul Khaosod

On July 20, opposition leader and Pheu Thai Party head Nathpong Ruangpanyanuwit held a press conference at a Bangkok hotel, alleging that all corruption cases revolve around the Interior Ministry or government-connected figures. He expressed doubt that high-level officials would face accountability. Nathpong cited the Senate vote-rigging case as a test of the government's sincerity on corruption, noting that the election commission's current majority was selected by senators accused in the rigging scandal—a circular arrangement suggesting mutual protection.

Nathpong warned that if the election commission dismisses the rigging charges, public scrutiny will fall on the Senate members who appointed commissioners, many with ties to government officials. He indicated readiness to pursue a no-confidence motion but said timing depends on political circumstances. He suggested the government faces serious legal exposure given mounting allegations involving loan schemes, electoral fraud, registry corruption, and emergency decrees—all reportedly linked to PM Anutin Charnvirakul.

Regarding the PM's planned China trip, Nathpong acknowledged foreign investment is valuable but questioned whether AI infrastructure and data centers truly benefit Thailand. He argued that clean energy industries would better serve Thai interests and regional bargaining power. Nathpong also noted the government has yet to address other urgent crises, particularly toxic contamination in the Kok River and suppression of unlicensed money-lenders, issues he believes remain unanswered in the public mind. He revealed that Pheu Thai had written to China's embassy requesting support, and Beijing agreed to cooperate if the Thai government takes action.

Bride-to-be O Updates Wedding Plans with Close Friends

Bride-to-be O shared wedding updates with close friends Ning and Aer on a Thai TV show, revealing the celebration is 80% ready with invitations nearly complete. The trio humorously discussed groomsman outfit fittings, particularly presenter

Bride-to-be O Updates Wedding Plans with Close Friends
20 Jul Khaosod

O Bhakjira, the bride-to-be, gathered her close friends Ning Panita and Aer Phortip today to update on wedding preparations, with the bride's mother being a close friend of all three. They discussed how their close friendship began and shared Ning's confession of feeling guilty toward Aer over the years after believing what others said and drifting apart. Aer also opened her heart about recovering from lung cancer treatment, which she managed to overcome thanks to encouragement from family and friends, during their appearance on One31's "Kuay Saep Show" hosted by DJ Puth Puttichai and Benz Porchita.

On Wedding Progress: O: The invitations are almost done, just waiting to hand them out. Everything is about 80 percent ready, just waiting for the wedding day. The cards just need final touches before we distribute them. They'll probably do Nadech and Yaya's fittings first at the same tailor shop (laughs).

On Wedding Presenters: O: Three guys—P'Po, P'Willie, and Art from the Back of the House team.

On Who Causes the Most Issues with Outfits: Aer: He keeps telling people I'm the difficult one, but that's not true. When we did groomsman fittings, we just went for measurements and that was it. But P'Po wouldn't do that. I told him he needed to dress formally like everyone else, but he insisted on doing things his own way—he wanted wide-legged Korean-style pants.

O: That's because I took two people and his wife took others since he said he didn't need to come—he'd have to go to the hospital anyway. That day I took Art and P'Willie. The tailor didn't mind. P'Po spent three hours on the groom's suit fitting. Nine of us went that day and finished in less than two hours thinking he was the groom.

On Suit Fitting: Aer: We tried everything in the shop. It wasn't enough, the fabric, this and that. For pants, the waist was too high, so let's do cotton, no a Chinese collar would be better. That's enough. P'Po didn't want to wear a tie. I said he couldn't because he's a presenter, but a Chinese collar doesn't go with a tie.

O: The tailor said P'Po had to wear a Chinese collar because the suit was so tight and he had too many accessories. The suit was long and tight, so a Chinese collar was necessary or he'd be suffocating. I told Beer he had to wear a white suit so people would know he was the groom, because everyone was so tight in their suits.

Ning: P'Po intended well. Everyone has given their all for this wedding. They're fully committed to O, right? Can you imagine?

O: That's not true. Art and P'Willie were fine. Just go with P'Po's style. Did he really say that? (laughs) Until P'Willie couldn't stand it and called to curse at him. What are you wearing?

Aer: Korean style, wide-legged, oversized suit.

O: P'Willie told me he couldn't dress like that. He's Western, he'd look like a bear. That's when he said he already knew he was going for the Korean style.

On What the Bride-to-be Handled: Aer: Don't call them friends—it's just Ning.

O: Ning did the wedding planning.

Ning: Everyone helped. Hana and U helped too. Everyone offered ideas, but everyone likes to go slow and talk nonsense. O is the same—it doesn't work that way. You have to be decisive, you have to be sharp, you have to push. Everyone keeps stalling around. You have to push.

O: She's the boss.

Ning: I try to keep up, try to push. It's not easy for a wedding.

On What Ning Handled: O: Almost everything.

Aer: Just the actual wedding ceremony left (laughs).

O: Once she puts on the wedding dress, she goes and stays with Beer (laughs).

On Whether Ten Bridesmaids Caused Chaos: Ning: You have to schedule them by queue. If anyone doesn't respond, you check the list and remind them. You call and ask why they haven't answered yet. Because we need responses on the group chat. When the time comes, they can't curse me out. It has to be clear.

20 Jul Khaosod

At 11:30 p.m. on July 19, police in Sichon district, Nakhon Si Thammarat received notification from Sichon Hospital that a gunshot victim had arrived deceased. Officers conducted an autopsy and identified the victim as a 31-year-old man shot once in the chest with a .357 caliber weapon. He was found unconscious on the roadside near his black Honda Wave motorcycle after the shooting in Moo 9, Sao Phao subdistrict.

Police traced the incident to a nearby residence and questioned the victim's father, a 60-year-old man, who admitted under gunpowder residue testing that he fired the fatal shot. He stated his son was a drug addict who had undergone treatment multiple times without success and frequently became violent. During the incident, his son became delirious at home and attacked him with a machete, prompting the father to fire once to stop him. The father attempted to rush his son to hospital but after about one kilometer, the son lost consciousness and could not remain on the motorcycle. The father then called emergency responders and waited at home.

Police searched the residence and found one .357 revolver and four rounds of ammunition. The father has been arrested and faces charges of homicide and illegal weapons possession.

Middle East Tensions Could Push Oil to $100 per Barrel

Oil prices could surge to $100 per barrel if Middle East tensions escalate and disrupt supply lines, though economists expect prices to stay in the $80–90 range for now, with Thailand's fuel costs likely to follow global market movements.

Middle East Tensions Could Push Oil to $100 per Barrel
20 Jul Khaosod

Energy economist Praiypol Khomtruap, former dean of economics at Thammasat University, forecasts crude oil will trade in the $80–90 range per barrel for the rest of the year despite some easing in Middle East tensions. If U.S.–Iran conflict intensifies or damages oil transport corridors, refineries, and production facilities, prices could climb to $100 per barrel. "Current conditions are concerning because global oil has already risen above $90 per barrel, with the risk of reaching $100 if Middle East tensions worsen," he said. Thailand's retail fuel prices will track global markets, and the government could consider cutting refining margins to cushion consumer costs. Reducing excise taxes is another option but remains a last resort since it directly impacts state revenue. The Energy Ministry reports that refinery shutdowns mean higher oil prices will persist even after U.S.–Iran fighting ends, with diesel forecast near $100 and gasoline in the $90–100 range per barrel. Prices are unlikely to spike as severely as the first half of the year or push Thai retail fuel back to 50 baht per liter. The government's fuel stabilization fund may also be deployed, depending on its liquidity at the time.

Blind 85-Year-Old Denied Poverty Aid Over Abandoned Motorcycles

Blind 85-Year-Old Denied Poverty Aid Over Abandoned Motorcycles
20 Jul Khaosod

On July 20, Poon Padtonghlang, an 85-year-old blind and immobile resident of Nong Song Hông village in Mueang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, wept after learning his application for the state welfare card had been rejected. The system flagged him as owning two motorcycles, though they are old vehicles from his youth that have long since broken down and vanished. Poon survives on 800 baht monthly in elderly allowance and 800 baht in disability benefit—totaling just 1,600 baht per month—and depends entirely on relatives for care and food, as he cannot help himself. His eldest daughter, Samreung Haenyok, 58, explained the family's desperation: traveling to the transport office to remove his name from the motorcycle registrations is nearly impossible because her father is completely blind and cannot move independently. The old motorcycles are long gone, but their names remain in the system, disqualifying him from aid. When Poon learned he had been rejected, he wept and said simply, "I want the card so I can have money to buy rice." Though he has saved roughly 10,000 baht over his lifetime, the family insists this does not reflect financial stability—they still depend on relatives to buy rice, food, milk, and necessities. The family is appealing to the government and relevant agencies to verify the facts, reconsider his eligibility, and help elderly and disabled people who cannot travel to handle paperwork themselves, so that outdated property records do not block vulnerable groups like Poon from receiving aid.
