The Thai Meteorological Department is warning of a southwest monsoon system sweeping across Thailand, affecting the North, Northeast, Central, and Eastern regions along with Bangkok and its surroundings. A strong low-pressure zone over the Pacific Ocean is forecast to intensify into a tropical depression between July 24–25.
The 24-hour weather forecast issued July 23 predicts heavy rain in scattered areas across the Northern, Northeastern, Central, Bangkok, and Eastern regions. The southwest monsoon has moderate strength over Thailand, the Andaman Sea, and the Gulf of Thailand, combined with a low-pressure system over northern Vietnam. Residents in the North and upper Northeast are advised to prepare for hazardous heavy and accumulated rainfall.
Sea conditions show waves of 1–2 meters in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand, approximately 1 meter in the lower Andaman Sea, and over 2 meters in thunderstorm areas. Fishing vessels are urged to exercise caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms.
Regional forecasts show thunderstorms with 70% coverage in the North (affecting Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun), 60% coverage in the Northeast (Udon Thani, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani), 60% in the Central region, and 60% in the East. The South (east coast) expects 30% thunderstorm coverage, while the west coast anticipates 40% coverage. Temperatures range from 22–28°C lows to 29–36°C highs depending on region, with southwest winds of 10–35 km/h.
