Botanical Garden Launches Open House 2026 Showcasing Plant Research

The Botanical Garden Organization will host BGO Open House 2026 on August 10–11, 2026, at the Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden in Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province, welcoming government agencies, private businesses, tourism operators, hotels, spas, and media to explore plant research and bioinnovation. The event, opened by Montthai Sricharoensak, director of the Business Development Office, aims to foster collaboration between the botanical garden and its network partners to commercialize plant knowledge and biological resources into value-added products and services.

During the event, participants will visit botanical and entomology laboratories where researchers Dr. Ratchuporn Suksathan and Dr. Kalyakorn Pirayakul present insights on plant product development and insect-plant-ecosystem relationships. Tours include the natural history museum, plant tower, and heritage greenhouses showcasing rare and endemic species, while participants plant purple heart trees under the theme "Sharing Love and Care in the Queen's Garden" to honor conservation efforts. An additional highlight is a guided nature study trail on ginger family plants, ancient ferns, and arboretum sections, where Dr. Sarayut Rak-acha explains botanical knowledge and introduces the "Botanical Wellness" concept linking nature, science, and wellbeing to develop wellness tourism.

Montthai emphasized that the botanical garden's mission encompasses conservation, education, research, and knowledge development in plant science, and the event demonstrates how the organization serves as both a research innovation hub and a catalyst for sustainable bioeconomy development. BGO Open House 2026 represents a key step in transforming research into practical applications, building networks across academia, government, and business, and positioning Thailand's biological resources as value-added products, services, and tourism experiences.
