Cabinet to Approve 9,000 Baht Aid for Nan Flood Victims
The Thai government plans to distribute 9,000 baht in initial aid to flood victims in northern Thailand, with the cabinet expected to approve the relief package on August 25. Death compensation in Nan province will reach up to 300,000 baht
At 09:10 on August 24, 2025, at Government House, Praradhorn Pattisananantakul, spokesman to the Prime Minister's Office, announced the government's plan to expedite relief payments to flood victims in the northern region. Ministers visiting affected areas will assess the situation, and the government aims to distribute initial compensation of 9,000 baht as quickly as possible.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is expected to present the relief package to the Prime Minister today for signature before it goes to the cabinet meeting on August 25 for approval. For death compensation in Nan province—where 2-3 deaths have been reported—there are two sources: central budget approval proposed by the disaster department, and funds from the Prime Minister's Office emergency fund, which has been discussed with the Permanent Secretary. Affected families will receive 80,000 baht from the emergency fund, bringing total assistance to around 300,000 baht when combined with emergency central budget allocations.
Regarding home repairs for affected residents, the government will use the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation's existing criteria. Local authorities will conduct damage assessments to evaluate the extent of destruction before releasing repair funds based on actual conditions.
