Chiang Mai Police Hunt Gang After Bridge Attack Injures Three
Chiang Mai police are hunting a gang of more than twenty teenagers who attacked rivals with knives and golf clubs under Pakakoyong Bridge in Saraphi district, injuring three people. The assault occurred late on October 14, 2026, prompting authorities to review CCTV and launch a manhunt. Officials vow to apprehend the youths quickly and maintain public order.
On October 15, 2026, Chiang Mai Provincial Police Commander Lieutenant General Yuttana Kaenchun ordered Saraphi Police Station Superintendent Police Colonel Sanchai Phanichkul to deploy investigators and examine CCTV footage to gather evidence against the teenage gang responsible for ambushing rivals under Pakakoyong Bridge along the Saraphi railway parallel road, which left several people injured in the early hours.
The confrontation stemmed from an incident at 10:10 p.m. on October 14, when over twenty youths gathered and attacked rival groups with knives and golf clubs under the bridge, injuring multiple victims and causing fear among local residents and road users, who appealed for authorities to act.
Investigations identified the attackers as youths aged approximately 17 to 18 who assaulted their rivals with knives and golf clubs without regard for the law. Initial findings showed three injured persons at the scene: one sustained a knife wound to the head, another received a knife slash to the arm that fortunately did not penetrate, and the third was struck with a golf club.
The victims were identified as one from Lamphun province, one from Hang Dong district, and one residing in the Nong Hoi area of Mueang Chiang Mai district. Rescue workers provided first aid before transporting all three to hospital for treatment.
Following the attack, local administrative officials, including village heads and subdistrict leaders, mobilized to intercept the suspects, but the youths fled on motorcycles along both sides of the railway road. Additionally, a black vehicle belonging to the rival party was found abandoned in the grassy area beside the bridge, and police secured the site as evidence.
Police announced they would intensify their investigation, review CCTV from various routes, and arrest all involved youths to face legal action swiftly. Lieutenant General Yuttana stated that investigators must apprehend the gang and file charges within the day, with results to be reported promptly, emphasizing Chiang Mai province’s policy of maintaining peace and order. He added that, once discharged from hospital, victims would be summoned for further questioning to help identify the perpetrators.
In the afternoon, Deputy Commissioner of Provincial Police Region 5, Police Lieutenant General Thawatchai Phongwiwatthanachai, was scheduled to visit Saraphi Police Station to monitor the case and press for the rapid apprehension of the juvenile suspects, given their young age.
