On August 8, 2025, officers from Na Jomtien Police Station in Sattahip district, Chon Buri province, responded to a report of a fatal stabbing inside an apartment. Deputy Investigation Superintendent Anudet Piamphoomipanya led investigators including station commander Pisit Tangsirisiamrit and deputy investigation commander Adisorn Kopkoi, along with forensic teams and Sattahip rescue units to the scene.

Officers found the body of an unidentified Chinese man lying in a pool of blood in room 3 on the first floor. He was wearing a white shirt and black shorts. The preliminary examination revealed three stab wounds: one to the left chest below the breast, one to the right forearm, and one to the right hand.

Also found in the room was a 21-year-old woman (name withheld) who sustained injuries to her body and was in a state of shock. She was taken to hospital for treatment. When questioned, the woman said she was sleeping on the bed when she heard screaming, woke up, saw the Chinese man being stabbed, and called for help.

The suspect fled the scene after the attack. CCTV footage from the apartment captured images of a man walking out of the room and then leaving the area. Police are investigating the relationship between the victim and the woman, as well as the motive behind the stabbing. Officers are actively pursuing the suspect while gathering evidence from the scene and reviewing additional CCTV footage to determine what happened inside the room.

Government Explains Silent Cell Broadcast Alert During School Shooting

The government clarified that the Cell Broadcast alert during an August 7 armed incident at a Nonthaburi school was intentionally silent to avoid revealing the locations of people sheltering in place, unlike alerts for natural disasters tha

Government Explains Silent Cell Broadcast Alert During School Shooting
8 Aug Khaosod

Deputy Government Spokesman Lalida Perisdwivat addressed the Cell Broadcast alert system's response to the armed incident at Thepsirin School in Nonthaburi on August 7, after many members of the public questioned why the alert lacked the distinctive alarm sound of previous system tests.

Perisdwivat explained that the choice of alert format followed safety principles and did not increase risk to people sheltering in the affected area. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation sent alerts to mobile phones across the school grounds and a surrounding 5-kilometer radius, requesting cooperation to avoid the area and reduce public risk while facilitating emergency operations. The system allows authorities to tailor the area, format, and alert level to match each emergency type.

According to Perisdwivat, the silent alert was intentional because an audible alarm on a sheltering person's phone could reveal their location and endanger them. This differs from natural disasters like earthquakes, tsunamis, or flash floods, which require loud alerts to prompt rapid evacuation. For armed-incident scenarios, the primary goal is to warn the public outside the zone to stay away, without creating additional risk for those already in hiding.

The government urged the public to read alert messages carefully, follow official instructions, avoid dangerous areas, and refrain from sharing images or livestreaming emergency operations, which could compromise the safety of responders and civilians. Officials said they will use lessons from this real-world deployment to continuously improve the Cell Broadcast system and enhance public safety across all emergency types.

Thailand Locks 200 Billion Baht for Energy Transition

Thailand's government will allocate 200 billion baht from emergency funds toward energy transition projects, including rooftop solar installations and electric vehicle adoption, while keeping tourism support spending modest.

Thailand Locks 200 Billion Baht for Energy Transition
8 Aug Khaosod

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanpraphas has outlined the government's allocation of the remaining 200 billion baht from a 400 billion baht emergency decree loan, stating that numerous project proposals have been submitted, including the Thai Travel Thai Plus program and energy transition initiatives. The government will prioritize energy transition projects with the remaining 200 billion baht, while approximately 40 billion baht remains from the first 200 billion baht tranche. Ekniti stressed the need to assess the situation carefully and ensure funds are used precisely to achieve their intended purposes, given budget constraints.

Regarding the Tourism and Sports Ministry's proposed allocation of 1,750-2,000 million baht for Thai Travel Thai Plus, Ekniti indicated this represents a modest portion of available funds and must be used to support small businesses as intended. While acknowledging that existing funds could legally be redirected to Thai Travel Thai Plus Phase 2, he expressed a preference to reserve the remaining 200 billion baht for energy transition purposes.

Ekniti outlined preliminary plans to allocate 50,000-60,000 billion baht for rooftop solar projects, partnering with the Government Savings Bank and Government Housing Bank to provide financing support. The government is also developing supporting systems including electricity buyback mechanisms, smart meter installation, and transmission line investments to ensure a stable energy transition. Additionally, plans are underway to transition public transportation to electric vehicles across seven groups, though budget details remain pending.

Meanwhile, Grab Holdings' executives thanked the government for Thai Travel Thai Plus participation, reporting merchant sales increased by over 68 percent, demonstrating the program's effectiveness in boosting small business revenue. Following the program's conclusion in September, the government will determine whether to proceed immediately with Phase 2 pending comprehensive evaluation.

Astrologer Warns Monday and Sunday Births to Stay Indoors

An astrologer has warned people born on Monday and Sunday to stay indoors from August 11-13 during a solar eclipse, citing traditional beliefs about Rahu's shadow bringing misfortune, though he also recommends Buddhist practices as protecti

Astrologer Warns Monday and Sunday Births to Stay Indoors
8 Aug Khaosod

Astrologer Olay Yanasampat appeared on Golf Benjaphon's YouTube channel to caution people born on Monday and Sunday to remain indoors during a three-day window. "We're halfway through the year and a natural phenomenon will occur—a solar eclipse where Rahu covers the sun on August 12," he explained. "The period extends to August 11, 12, and 13 internationally. My teachers advised me to ask people not to leave their homes for three days due to fear of Rahu's shadow and its influence."

According to traditional belief, those affected by Rahu's shadow face bad luck, particularly people born on Monday and Sunday. However, Olay noted that this belief exists across Southeast Asia as well. From a Buddhist perspective, he said, all things result from karma, though cultural traditions still hold value. Rahu, associated with the number 8, can represent knowledge and skillful means in astrology. "If possible, stay indoors during these three days," he advised. "But if you must go out, maintain good thoughts, speak well, and have right view. Return home and rely on Buddhist merit through chanting—I believe the Buddha's protection is real."

When asked about potential alarming events in August, Olay expressed concern about the fire season. "August is the fire month—horse fire meets fire. September and October also require caution regarding major fire-related incidents," he stated. "From September 4 through October 29, both water and fire will occur. With good management, it shouldn't be severe, but in past years when Bangkok, Don Mueang, and Ayutthaya flooded completely, we lacked dams and flood barriers. Now those systems are complete, so the risk is different."

Regarding potential fire incidents, Olay distinguished between two types: fires on streets unrelated to water, and fires in crowded gathering places. "Fires in densely populated areas are more frightening," he said. From late October to mid-December, he warned of potential foreign interference and civil unrest. "There may be quarrels and disturbances in places with large crowds. Small problems could arise, but if major issues occur, they might escalate to the national level, requiring embassy involvement," he concluded.

Authorities Arrest 45 Illegal Myanmar Workers in Kanchanaburi Forest

Authorities Arrest 45 Illegal Myanmar Workers in Kanchanaburi Forest
7 Aug Khaosod

Local administration in Thong Pha Phum district rounded up 45 undocumented Myanmar workers sheltering in a forest community at Ban Gering Krawia. The workers admitted they were heading to Malaysia with smuggling fees of 45,000 baht per person, while others aimed for Bangkok, Samut Prakan, and Chon Buri at 25,000 baht each.

On August 7, 2025, Kanchanaburi provincial leadership received a tip from a local resident about suspicious individuals in the forest area of Ban Gering Krawia village, Cha-let subdistrict, Thong Pha Phum district. Following the report, authorities dispatched a team led by Yongyut Sawengsuk, the district security officer, along with village headman Pachon Kuntama, village assistants, and village safety volunteers to investigate. Upon arrival at the location, they discovered a large group of male and female Myanmar workers sheltering under makeshift tents from the rain. Officers surrounded and arrested all 45 individuals—27 men and 18 women, aged between 18 and 40.

Initial investigation revealed they had crossed the border on foot through natural passages along the frontier near Phya Thong Soo District in Myanmar, adjacent to Phra Chedi Sam Ong. After entering Thailand, they evaded Thai security checkpoints and were transported by smugglers via boat across Wachiralongkorn Dam reservoir into Thong Pha Phum district. They then hid in the forest community to await vehicle transportation. Some paid smugglers 45,000 baht per person to reach Malaysia, while others paid 25,000 baht each to reach jobs in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, and Chon Buri. All suspects have been handed to Thong Pha Phum Police Station for legal proceedings.
