The mother and girlfriend of Tae Dragon Five, a renowned boy band singer, collected his body on August 8, 2025, at the Forensic Science Institute under the Justice Ministry in Pathum Thani, and are seeking clarity on the circumstances of his death. They fear he may have been robbed and killed. His body was found in the Chao Phraya River near Rama VII Bridge in Nonthaburi after relatives reported him missing from his residence along with his bicycle. Police discovered a black backpack containing cement chunks and bricks weighing approximately 10 kilograms used to weigh down the body. No visible injuries were found, and he is believed to have died about 24 hours before discovery.

His mother, Darara, 79, and girlfriend, Valaiwan, 42, arranged a three-day Buddhist merit-making ceremony from August 8–10, with the cremation scheduled for August 11 due to religious observance restrictions on August 12. Darara described her son as a hardworking and resilient person who attempted several businesses over the years. He opened a children's drama school but was forced to close during the COVID-19 pandemic. He later opened a northern Thai restaurant called "Peang Khanaad" and was planning to open a men's barber school, which was thriving. He regularly volunteered to provide free haircuts to the community every Saturday and had even begun preparing to become a Buddhist monk.

Darara expressed suspicion about the bricks in the backpack, questioning whether her son was attacked or robbed. She noted his new bicycle had gone missing and worried he may have been killed and weighted down underwater. She described him as gentle, never argumentative, and not depressed. On his birthday on July 8, he had invited her to eat together, and they spoke regularly without any sign of distress. She stressed to police that she wants clarity on whether he was attacked or robbed, and maintains he showed no signs of crisis or mental health issues.

Transport Deputy Orders Faster Dredging of Uthapao Canal
8 Aug Khaosod

On August 8, Deputy Transport Minister Sompech Bunyamani visited Songkhla Province to monitor progress on the Uthapao Canal dredging project and assess the Port Authority's readiness to execute waterway maintenance work. The initiative aims to enhance drainage capacity ahead of the monsoon season, improve safety for waterway users, and protect residents and economic zones from flooding. The Port Authority is currently conducting dredging work with a 1.55 million baht budget and a target of removing 45,000 cubic meters of material. Three additional projects worth approximately 85 million baht are planned for fiscal 2027, including major dredging operations along coastal channels associated with the Uthapao Canal and two other key waterways, each requiring removal of 300,000 cubic meters of material. Sompech directed the Port Authority to accelerate preparations and prioritize clearing shallow sections that obstruct water flow, while coordinating with Songkhla Province and relevant agencies to align operations with the region's flood prevention and water management plan. He emphasized that flood preparedness requires advance action, not crisis response, and that efficient waterways also support local transportation, livelihoods, and economic activity.

On August 8, 2025, police commanding officer Pol. Lt. Gen. Withaya Sripraseritphap ordered officers to apprehend Somkhit (surname withheld), 60, following arrest warrant 1011/2569 issued by the Bangkok South Criminal Court on August 3. He was arrested at a rented house in Samut Prakan province.

The case stems from July 31 when the 17-year-old victim, who has developmental and intellectual delays, was waiting outside a club in Bangkok's Bang Rak district for her mother to finish work. A tall man in black clothing and helmet approached on a gray motorcycle, asking where she was from and why she was alone. He then offered to take her for food and teach her Thai massage skills. The victim agreed to ride with him.

Instead, he took her to a hotel room, claiming he would teach her massage. He then removed both their clothing and attempted to assault her. Though she resisted, she could not overpower him and was raped. Afterward, he brought her back to the original location and threatened her not to tell her mother or anyone else, instructing her to say she had been at the mall. Her mother's coworker found her at the club and called her mother, who learned the full story and reported it to police.

During initial questioning, Somkhit confessed. He is being prosecuted for child abduction of a minor between 15 and 18 years old and rape with threats and force against a person unable to resist.

A 44-year-old automotive company employee was found dead in a bronze-grey Honda HRV on August 8, 2026, around 11:00 a.m. on a road in Sri Racha, Chon Buri Province. A painter named Somsak noticed the car idling unusually near noon, attempted to wake the woman inside by shaking the vehicle, and discovered her lifeless body when he opened the door. Police determined she had been dead for at least seven hours. Inside her handbag, investigators found multiple sleeping pills in their original packaging and a notebook containing a lengthy farewell letter expressing despair over work stress, accusations of financial wrongdoing, family concerns, and feelings of hopelessness about her job and personal circumstances. The letter detailed her struggles with work conflict, health problems, and financial difficulties. An examination of her body revealed no signs of physical trauma. According to the painter's account, he first noticed the running car at approximately 1:00 a.m., saw it still idling the following morning, and checked on it around noon when he became concerned. Opposition Presents New Evidence in Senate Election Fraud Case

Opposition coalition plans to present evidence of vote-buying money trails and new witness testimony on August 9 in an ongoing Senate election fraud investigation.

Opposition Presents New Evidence in Senate Election Fraud Case
8 Aug Khaosod

The opposition coalition is preparing to present evidence from the fourth Senate election fraud investigation on August 9. According to Panida Mongkolswasdi, a Samut Prakan MP from the Pheu Thai Party, the key highlight will be clearer evidence of a money trail, with new witnesses from different provinces confirming the existence of fraudulent vote-buying schemes. The money trail will reportedly link to previously undisclosed individuals with close connections to political parties, and additional evidence of illegal incentive offers will be presented.

Mongkolswasdi questioned whether authorities possess this information and expressed skepticism about the fairness of the election, noting that witness testimonies and documents are already in circulation. She voiced concern that while the Election Commission has extensive evidence, the 36-member subcommittee cleared suspects of wrongdoing, and she fears the full commission will follow suit despite the substantial documentation proving wrongdoing.

PM Orders Stricter Gun Checks Outside Homes
8 Aug Khaosod

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced strict new measures to control firearms outside residences, rejecting suggestions to arm teachers for self-defense. Following discussions with National Police Commissioner Kittirat Panpetch after visiting the Thepsirin School shooting scene in Nonthaburi, Anutin said the government would strengthen gun control laws and establish checkpoints to intercept weapons carried in public, in vehicles, or outside homes without official duty.

Regarding shooting ranges, Anutin noted existing regulations require all firearms and ammunition to be registered and stored at licensed facilities during training. He dismissed proposals to allow teachers to carry guns, stating that teachers are not government officials and no civilians should carry weapons for personal protection, warning that using a stolen gun to "solve problems" would result in severe charges.

On illegal firearms, Anutin declared there is no such thing as a "correct" illegal gun and vowed his government would seize all unlicensed weapons. He urged people not to speculate about the incident and to let police complete their investigation, saying long-term solutions would involve coordinated action by the Interior Ministry, police, and government officials conducting full inspections.

Thailand Launches 90-Day School Safety Standard After Shooting
8 Aug Khaosod

Deputy Prime Minister Yasothon Wongsawat is leading a coordinated effort among four human-capital development ministries to establish concrete measures and sustainable school safety frameworks across Thai schools. Following the tragic August 7 shooting at Thepsirin School in Nonthaburi province—where a student fired on teachers and classmates, resulting in deaths and injuries—officials from the Education, Social Development and Human Security, Labor, and Public Health ministries met on August 8 to chart an emergency response and long-term prevention strategy.

The action plan divides into two phases. The immediate "School Reopening" phase prioritizes psychological recovery and emergency safety screening, including nationwide mental health support through the Department of Mental Health's 1323 hotline, chat systems, and appointment scheduling coordinated with school psychologists. Volunteer mental health teams will be deployed to affected schools to support students, teachers, and parents, with trauma-healing activities conducted on the first day of reopening. Measures also include permanently closing the classroom where the incident occurred, establishing monitored parent observation areas, allowing affected staff and students to transfer schools if needed, and implementing temporary screening procedures at school entrances.

The longer-term strategy centers on a "National School Safety Standard" to be finalized within 90 days and submitted to the cabinet for nationwide adoption. This framework encompasses regular mental health screening for students and teachers, efficient referral systems for at-risk students to specialists, training programs for counselors and teachers in psychological first aid, a Traffy Fondue safe-reporting channel for bullying and other concerns, comprehensive emergency response drills, security reviews including CCTV systems, and a zero-tolerance approach to bullying in schools.

National Parks Director Orders Strict Quality Checks on Donated Food
8 Aug Khaosod

On August 8, 2025, Atthapol Charoenchansaa, director of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, issued an urgent order requiring all field units to rigorously inspect donated food and supplies before distribution to rangers or wildlife at care stations. He thanked the public for their concern and appealed for donations of items in good condition that meet safety standards to prevent health risks and environmental damage.

The directive follows media reports revealing that donated packages sent to field units contained unlabeled canned foods such as young jackfruit in brine, canned sugarcane, and canned corn. The cans were dented and lacked information about manufacturing source, ingredients, or expiration dates. Some unit heads banned the items from field rations over personnel safety concerns and are seeking proper disposal methods to prevent environmental and wildlife harm.

Atthapol said he received the reports and has taken them seriously, ordering all nationwide departments to conduct strict quality checks on all donated food and supplies before distribution to rangers for consumption or field use, prioritizing personnel health and safety. The Department expressed deep gratitude to all sectors and citizens for their continued care and support of frontline forest rangers protecting forests and wildlife, calling this concern an important source of morale and inspiration.

Given that rangers work in remote deep forests where emergency medical evacuation is difficult, the Department requests that donors provide only dry foods or consumer goods in perfect condition with clear expiration dates and manufacturing source labels. This helps ensure safety and avoids waste accumulation and chemical residue impacts on forest ecosystems. The Department hopes for continued cooperation from all donors to protect the health and safety of dedicated forest rangers.
