Chinese Woman Fleeing 6-Year Prison Sentence Arrested in Thailand
A 32-year-old Chinese woman wanted for procuring prostitution was arrested in Thailand after fleeing a six-year prison sentence imposed by courts in Nanning, China last December.
On September 14, 2569, police apprehended Wang, a 32-year-old Chinese national, in Samut Prakan province. Wang was a high-priority fugitive wanted by the Chinese government for charges of procuring for prostitution, with a case handled by the Nanning Public Security Office.
Wang had been prosecuted in China and initially released on bail due to pregnancy. On December 2, 2568, the Xixiangfang District Court in Nanning sentenced her to six years imprisonment and fined her 500,000 yuan. After the verdict took effect, Wang fled to avoid serving her sentence.
On December 18, 2568, she traveled by train to Pingxiang in Guangxi province near the Vietnamese border, then disappeared from contact with Chinese authorities. Police believe she illegally crossed into another country. Investigators tracked her movements and discovered she had hidden in Bangkok's Huai Khwang district.
Detectives learned Wang was planning a visa run—traveling to Malaysia and returning to Thailand to renew her stay in the kingdom. On September 11, 2569, she boarded a flight to Kuala Lumpur. Officers maintained surveillance after receiving intelligence she planned to return to Thailand.
Days later, Wang flew from Kuala Lumpur back to Suvarnabhumi Airport. After exiting the terminal, she was spotted at a roadside meeting point, apparently preparing to board a getaway vehicle. Police moved in and took her into custody, coordinating with relevant agencies to process her under Thai law and facilitate her extradition to serve her sentence in China.
