7 Aug Khaosod

Thai national women's volleyball coach Kiattipong Ratchatagriang (Coach Ott) commended all his players for their full effort in the match, saying that while the first game had some excitement, the team achieved the target victory. He acknowledged areas needing improvement, particularly blocking performance in the early stages, and expressed optimism that Thursday's match against Indonesia will show better results. He noted the team made 11 serving errors and accepted responsibility for that penalty.

Regarding Chatchaon Mogsri, who made her return to the court for the first time since recovering from injury, Coach Ott explained that she was still nervous and couldn't control herself as well as needed, though he had anticipated this possibility. Rather than substitute her frequently, he allowed her to play extended minutes to find her rhythm. He expressed confidence she will improve gradually, as she is an intelligent player with good instincts for reading the game.

On July 26, 2026, Somdet Phra Mahadhirajarn (Pasit Khemmangkro), abbot of Wat Phra Chetuphorn Vimolmangkhlaram and vice chairman of the Sangha Supreme Council overseeing the northern region, presided over the formal presentation of the Supreme Patriarch's appointment order designating Phra Dhammavachirapon (Rid Ridwetee), abbot of Wat Tak Fa in Nakhon Sawan, as provincial head monk of Nakhon Sawan. The ceremony took place at the northern regional ecclesiastical office meeting room at Wat Phra Chetuphorn Vimolmangkhlaram.

Phra Dhammavachirapon, regarded as a highly capable senior monk, has dedicated himself to advancing monastic educational programs with unwavering commitment. Currently 62 years old with 42 Buddhist Lent observances to his name, he serves as abbot of Wat Tak Fa, a royal temple in Tak Fa District, Nakhon Sawan, and now assumes his new role as provincial ecclesiastical administrator. Born on Wednesday, July 2, 1964, at house number 25, village 4, Ban Nong Nam, Tak Tok subdistrict, Ban Tak District, Tak Province, to parents Samran and Kern Thubeiuam who worked in agriculture.

After completing fourth-grade primary education, when asked if he wished to ordain as a monk, he readily agreed, having long harbored deep reverence for Buddhism. He took monastic vows on September 11, 1977, at Wat San Pa Lan in Tak Auk subdistrict, Ban Tak District, Tak Province, with Phra Khru Wisakij Anuwat, the subdistrict ecclesiastical administrator, as his ordaining preceptor.

From ages 8 to 18, he studied meditation and mental discipline under Luang Pho Bua Klai at Wat Khantong in Tak. He then pursued advanced monastic textual studies in both Pali and Dharma traditions under Phra Ratchasuvarnarsobphan at Wat Bodhi Rat in Ang Thong Province, earning top honors and advanced scriptural certifications before transferring to Wat Tak Fa.

At age 20, he underwent full higher ordination on May 14, 1984, at Wat Tak Fa's ordination boundary, with Phra Khru Nakhom Khet Kanarak, the district ecclesiastical administrator, serving as his preceptor. He subsequently pursued advanced monastic studies, eventually earning the highest level of scriptural certification.

In 2000, he completed a master's degree in educational administration from Naresuan University. His contributions to monastic education have earned widespread recognition. In 1995, he received an award for establishing distinguished Pali studies programs; in 1997, he received certification for excellence in Dharma and Pali education from the provincial monastic education committee. In 2001, Wat Tak Fa was designated as the provincial center for Pali studies by the Sangha Supreme Council.

In 2001, he received commendation from the Department of Non-Formal Education, Ministry of Education. In 2003, he received the Sao Samadharmachakra Award for meritorious service to Buddhism in monastic education. His ecclesiastical rank has been elevated four times: in 1996 to Phra Racha Kana (Third Class, Phra Srisuddhi Wetee); in 2006 to Phra Racha Kana (Second Class, Phra Rajapanya Wetee); in 2016 to Phra Racha Kana (First Class, Phra Thepphanya Phon); and most recently on April 20, 2026, to the rank of Phra Dhammavachirapon.

On February 4, 2006, Wat Tak Fa received a royal visit from Princess Sirindhorn, who toured the temple's educational programs and graciously donated 10,000 baht from her personal funds to support monastic meals. This donation was established as a perpetual educational support fund.

The body of 46-year-old Detiwech Detpan, known as Tae DragonFive, was found in the Chao Phraya River beneath Rama VII Bridge in Nonthaburi province on August 7, 2569, after he left his house at 4 a.m. on August 6 with his bicycle and went missing.

7 Aug Khaosod

A disturbing incident shocked dog lovers when, at 3:35 a.m. on August 6, 2025, a black Labrador with a collar and leash was dragged for several kilometers behind a motorcycle before being abandoned in critical condition outside Omsin Market in Muang District, Lampang Province. The dog was covered in blood, but market vendors discovered it, pooled money for emergency treatment, and rushed it to Lampang Veterinary Hospital.

On August 7 at 2 p.m., Nai Sen, a 58-year-old trader, presented himself to police with his Honda Wave 100 motorcycle and gave a statement. He claimed he had no intention of harming or killing the dog, but that two or three dogs chased him while he was riding, and he did not realize the dog's leash had become tangled on his motorcycle. Frightened of being bitten, he continued riding until he noticed the dog had stopped moving. He did not stop because he feared the dog might get up and bite him. He stated he had driven to the market to quickly buy goods for his business, and when vendors helped free the leash, he hurried off to shop without checking on the dog because he needed to earn a living.

Nai Sen expressed that the harsh criticism on social media made him feel depressed and stressed, as he did not know the dog was attached to his motorcycle or whose dog it was. He suggested that dog owners should keep their pets confined indoors rather than letting them run loose chasing vehicles on the road to prevent such accidents in the future. Police are currently investigating the motorcycle and testing whether the leash could have become entangled as he claimed, and will proceed with legal action based on their findings.

Temple Officials Demand Investigation Into Unauthorized Power Equipment Removal

Temple officials filed a complaint with the Provincial Electricity Authority on August 7, alleging that electrical equipment was unlawfully removed from their Chaiyaphum province grounds in April without proper authorization or notification

Temple Officials Demand Investigation Into Unauthorized Power Equipment Removal
7 Aug Khaosod

On August 7, Prommasath Krittayavir, founder of Devalaivalai Phra Maha Kali temple (also known as Thung Dok Krajeao temple), along with activist Chakai King Tangthim Saphan Mai and lawyer Jes Nathapakorn Sutcha, submitted a formal complaint to the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) requesting a fact-finding committee investigate the unauthorized removal of electrical poles and transformers from temple property without permission. They also requested a review of whether the electricity disconnection request process and procedures complied with regulations.

Chakai King stated that the affected parties had not received justice and were forced to appeal to the PEA director to investigate whether PEA staff at the Bamheng Nongkhai branch in Chaiyaphum province were aware of or involved in removing the transformer. Prommasath revealed that on April 22, a vehicle resembling a PEA truck had entered the temple grounds and removed the transformer without any official notification from PEA. On April 23, he met with the PEA branch manager and presented legal documents proving the temple's land ownership to request clarification, and asked for copies of the disconnection request for examination.

Preliminary investigation found numerous irregularities, including discrepancies in the disconnection request details, incomplete power-of-attorney documentation lacking official revenue stamps, and procedural violations of standard PEA regulations. Prommasath questioned whether the approval process for disconnection complied with normal PEA procedures, and whether proper authorization or government documentation existed for using external heavy equipment to remove electrical equipment from the temple grounds, and whether PEA employees participated in or approved the removal. He stated the complaint was intended to verify whether PEA staff were involved in theft of temple property and to determine if backdated documents were created to assist the accused party.

Lawyer Jes Nathapakorn stated they wanted the PEA director to investigate how external parties were allowed to remove the temple's transformer, causing significant damage. The submitted documentation lacked proper details, prompting the request for central PEA investigation into whether the removal was legal and compliant with regulations. PEA representatives initially accepted the complaint and promised to report findings to the complainants within seven days.

On August 7, Police General Siam Bunyasorn, the national police commander, chaired the closing ceremony of the "MPB SWAT Challenge 2026" at the Anti-Terrorism Operations Command in Bangkok's Bang Khae District. The event brought together senior police leadership to present awards from the annual tactical SWAT competition held from August 4-7. The competition tested 20 teams (160 officers total) from across police commands in three simulation scenarios: assault entry, hostage rescue, and officer rescue operations.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Police have trained over 1,000 officers in the MPB SWAT program across two cohorts. The competition aims to standardize tactical skills and ensure all officers are prepared to respond swiftly and effectively to critical incidents while prioritizing public safety. Police General Siam noted the urgency of rapid response, referencing recent shooting incidents including one in Nonthaburi Province and operations in Korat. He explained that increasing tactical team sizes from 5 to 10 officers per unit would enable faster response times and more effective evacuation of civilians during active threats. He emphasized that without proper tactics and training, officers risk casualties, making this training program essential for effective crisis response.

Thailand Launches Tax Package to Attract EV Manufacturing Investment

Thailand is launching tax incentives to attract global electric vehicle manufacturers to build production facilities locally, with lower excise taxes available for companies using domestic components and higher rates for importers.

Thailand Launches Tax Package to Attract EV Manufacturing Investment
7 Aug Khaosod

The Finance Ministry is expediting a tax incentive package designed to attract global manufacturers to establish electric vehicle production bases in Thailand, with emphasis on using locally-sourced components. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprayat revealed that the measure aims to create domestic supply chains and boost competitiveness in future industries like electric vehicles, with clarity expected by September 2026.

Under the initial framework, manufacturers that decide to establish production facilities will receive lower excise tax rates, provided they use raw materials and components produced domestically. Conversely, companies that do not invest in manufacturing plants in Thailand will face higher tax rates to protect domestic investors and encourage real capital inflows. For example, modern automotive manufacturers setting up factories in Thailand could qualify for lower taxes, while those importing vehicles without local production would pay premium rates.

The government has already discussed the plan with automotive manufacturers and various industry groups and is prepared to support the initiative. The Finance Ministry has also tasked the Customs Department and Revenue Department with accelerating measures to protect Thai SMEs from cheap imported goods that could undercut domestic producers. Although customs authorities have begun collecting import duties and value-added tax on imports from the first baht, the Finance Ministry is currently reviewing whether current tax rates are appropriate.

Grab Taps Health Trend: Park Visits Jump 5x, Sugar-Free Drinks Hit 10M Orders
7 Aug Khaosod

Grab, the ride-hailing and food delivery platform, reports that the longevity and HYROX fitness craze is driving urban Thais toward healthier lifestyles. Morning rides to public parks have surged over 5-fold, gym trips are up 30%, and zero-sugar beverages like black coffee and matcha now exceed 10 million orders annually. Chicken breast dishes have crossed 3.3 million orders yearly.

On August 7, 2026, Panomkorn Jirasethiyanpong, assistant managing director of marketing at Grab Thailand, revealed that over the past year, younger urbanites have increasingly embraced active lifestyles. This includes running in parks, group fitness classes, and choosing health-conscious food and drinks—especially low-sugar beverages and high-protein meals.

Grab data shows that ride bookings to major Bangkok parks such as Lumphini Park, Benjakitti Park, Railway Park, and Bueng Nong Bon Sports Center have increased more than fivefold, particularly between 4:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., while evening rides to gyms and fitness centers (5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.) have grown by 30%.

This health-conscious trend extends beyond Bangkok. The five most-used provincial parks include Railway Park in Chiang Mai, Bueng Kaen Nakhon in Khon Kaen, Ban Thray Subdistrict Park in Chonburi, Suan Luang Rama IX in Phuket, and Bung Ta Lua Commemoration Park in Nakhon Ratchasima.

The HYROX global fitness race series has also fueled the trend, with Grab ride bookings to the BYD HYROX Bangkok 2026 event at Bangkok's BITEC from March 20–22, 2026, increasing 2.5 times compared to the previous year's event.

Drinking habits are shifting too. Orders for beverages with 0–75% sugar through GrabFood have risen over 50%, with sugar-free drinks accounting for over 40% of that category. Black coffee and clear matcha with zero sugar together exceed 10 million orders annually.

High-protein foods are increasingly popular, especially dishes featuring chicken breast, which total over 3.3 million orders yearly with 30% growth. Searches for healthy menu items such as salads, Greek yogurt, and clean food have reached nearly 1 million combined, showing that younger consumers are not only exercising more but also choosing foods aligned with their health goals.

Sports nutrition products are also thriving. Ready-to-drink protein beverages ordered through GrabMart exceed 450,000 bottles annually, a growth of over 3.5 times. Superfoods remain popular, with kale leading health product sales at about 80 tons per year, followed by blueberries and salmon. Top health product stores on GrabMart have seen sales grow over 10 times.

Grab noted that these trends reflect consumers' shift toward prioritizing health across all dimensions—from transportation and exercise to food and product choices. The platform has piloted a Nutrition Tag feature to recommend high-protein, low-carb, low-calorie, and low-sugar menu options. Grab also offers health-conscious users a 10% discount (up to 100 baht) with code "HEALTHY" on food, beverages, and related items.
