Collectors Prize Rare Amulets of Revered Thai Monks
Collectors prize rare amulets from three revered Thai monks. Highlights include 1963 portrait coins, 2006
Luang Por Cheua Sukkhavanno, abbot of Wat Mai Bamphen Bun in Chai Nat, is renowned across central Thailand. His amulets, especially the first series of portrait coins minted in 1963, are highly sought after. These round coins with a hanging loop feature a full-body portrait, the inscription 'Luang Por Samuh Cheua Wat Bamphen Bun,' and sacred yantra on the reverse.
In 2006, Phra Khru Nisit Khanakorn of Wat Phra Prang Luang in Nakhon Sawan created amulets from the temple's ubosot pillar wood to honor Luang Por Ngoen. These egg-shaped wooden amulets display a meditating portrait with a royal fan, Khmer script mantras, and the names of ten revered guru monks who participated in the consecration.
On December 9, 1977, the Uthai Thani sangha held a memorial ceremony for Luang Por Sema Chanto of Wat Taluk Du, producing 10,000 dark bronze oval coins. Despite being made posthumously, the limited single-edition run and distinctive design make them prized collectibles.
