Commerce Ministry Mobilizes Flood Relief, Rushes Goods to Remote Areas
The Commerce Ministry deployed military logistics to deliver essential goods to flood-affected areas across Thailand, coordinating supply routes where commercial vehicles cannot reach due to water damage and infrastructure collapse.
On September 28, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supachai Suthammaphan addressed the media following a national flag ceremony at Government House, outlining measures to assist residents affected by the ongoing flood crisis. The Commerce Ministry has implemented a single command system, with a deputy permanent secretary coordinating data from provincial commerce offices across the country to closely monitor product supply, distribution, and pricing in affected areas.
For regions facing difficult transport conditions, the Commerce Ministry has coordinated with the Defence Ministry to provide military logistics support, as commercial vehicles cannot access routes blocked by deep water or damaged infrastructure. In Sakon Nakhon province, which faces fresh food shortages, goods are being transported through Kabinburi before distribution. In Bangkok, coordination with city officials is underway to supply both fresh and dried essential goods to the hard-hit Lat Krabang area.
"We are monitoring both shortages and abnormal price increases," the minister stated. "If anyone finds goods unavailable or prices rising unexpectedly, report it to hotline 1569."
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that supporting purchasing power extends beyond flood damage to encompassing living costs and healthcare expenses. The ministry is discussing budget allocation to assist residents through affordable consumer goods. The Commerce Ministry will continue its ongoing "Thai Helping Thai" programme, which began in April, to expand affordable product access. The next phase will prioritize delivering goods to flood-affected areas to reduce living costs and offer residents more purchasing options.
