CP Launches Platform to Boost Thai Farmers and SMEs
7 Jul Khaosod

CP Group is advancing its "Platform of Opportunity" initiative in partnership with Thailand's chambers of commerce and modern trade allies to create an ecosystem that elevates Thai farmers and SMEs toward sustainable modern commerce. On July 1, 2025, at Adelphi Hotel in Khon Kaen, CP Group launched the initiative under the policy direction of Supachai Jiarawanont, senior vice president of CP Group. The group coordinated with affiliated companies including CP Extra, Makro, Lotus, CP Seeding Social Impact, CP All, Seven-Eleven management, and CPRam, alongside the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Thai Chambers of Commerce Federation, the Department of Internal Trade, and modern trade partners to host "Big Match AGRI-Connext @ Khon Kaen." The event creates a forum connecting farmers, SME operators, and community enterprises to modern retail markets through business matchmaking and knowledge building in product standards, branding, marketing, logistics, and AI—designed to enhance competitiveness and strengthen the grassroots economy sustainably.

Piyawat Thitasatthaworn, managing director and vice chair of CP All and chair of the Thai Chamber of Commerce's business matchmaking committee, stated that the event embodies the Chamber's "Unlocking New Growth" policy, which promotes public-private cooperation to elevate Thai entrepreneurs and foster economic growth aligned with national development direction. "Thai entrepreneurs need more than just a market—they need partners to build long-term competitive capacity. Linking government, private sector, and modern trade networks, with Seven-Eleven as a key distribution channel for SME products and farm output to consumers, creates an ecosystem where small operators genuinely thrive. As farmers and SMEs grow, the grassroots economy strengthens, and the national economy grows together."

Beyond business matchmaking with seven modern trade partners, the event featured seminars on preparing for modern retail channels, agricultural market trends, production capability enhancement and farm management, and leveraging the Department of Internal Trade's standards-based market mechanisms to comprehensively boost Thai business competitiveness.

CP Group's "Platform of Opportunity" is not merely a sales channel but a mechanism linking knowledge, technology, production standards, marketing, and partner networks to help farmers and SMEs grow within their potential and compete sustainably in the modern marketplace.

Siriporn Deetsing, CEO of CP Extra's Sustainability and Corporate Communications unit and chair of the Thai Chambers of Commerce Federation's modern agriculture business matchmaking subcommittee, noted that the event transcends a business matchmaking forum—it is a critical space connecting farmers, operators, buyers, government, and the private sector to create new opportunities for Thai agriculture. It aims to build networks and partner linkages to provide producers and operators market access, while building consumer insight knowledge so farmers can develop products matching market demand and generate sustainable income growth.

Police Enforce Transparency Standards at Checkpoints

Thailand's police spokesman emphasized that all traffic checkpoints must operate transparently with clear signage, body cameras, and complaint hotlines to prevent misconduct and ensure public convenience during enforcement operations.

Police Enforce Transparency Standards at Checkpoints
7 Jul Khaosod

Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairongpiphat Pivatphan, national police spokesman, inspected traffic enforcement checkpoints in Phetchaburi province on July 7, 2026 to monitor compliance with police directives.

He stated that all checkpoints must receive approval from provincial police commanders and be evaluated for appropriateness without causing excessive disruption to traffic or public inconvenience.

Standard checkpoints must be divided into five operational zones with advance warning signs, checkpoint commander identification, approving officer details, complaint hotline numbers, and QR codes for public performance evaluation. All officers must wear body cameras, and checkpoint surveillance footage must be retained for at least 20 days for retrospective review.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairongpiphat clarified that checkpoints exist to prevent and suppress crime, intercept dangerous incidents, and reduce drunk-driving accidents—not to create public hardship. He acknowledged that some officers may occasionally misbehave but assured wrongdoers will face both disciplinary and criminal prosecution.

Regarding social media posts sharing checkpoint locations, he noted that safety awareness campaigns are acceptable, but deliberately helping offenders evade checkpoints may constitute supporting illegal activity.

He advised the public to verify checkpoints display complete information, require officers to identify themselves and explain inspection reasons, and demand courteous conduct. Complaints can be filed via numbers posted at checkpoints, QR code scanning, or the 24-hour hotline 1599.

The National Police Commander has issued two directives requiring all supervisory levels to randomly inspect checkpoint operations. The Internal Affairs Department conducts additional oversight and reports monthly findings to ensure compliance and prompt correction of deficiencies.

On July 7, 2025, Bukkhalow Police Station received a report of a fire in a residential unit along Soi Charoen Nakorn 63 (Soi Wat Bukkhalow) on Charoen Nakorn Road in Thonburi district, Bangkok. Firefighters and rescue teams from Talat Phlu Station, along with volunteers from Po Teg Tung Foundation and civil defense units, responded to extinguish the blaze at the multi-unit commercial building.

Officers found flames and heavy smoke billowing from the ground floor of the building before the fire spread rapidly throughout the space. Firefighters deployed water hoses and brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes.

According to investigation, house owner Ms. Duangjai Riyawong, 65, had gone to see a doctor when neighbors called to alert her that her home was on fire. She arrived to find the fire already raging.

Ms. Riyawong explained that her brother, who suffers from cerebral vascular disease causing paralysis, was present during the incident. Despite his condition, he was able to help himself and escaped the building in time without any injuries.

Her brother reported that before the fire spread, he noticed sparks flying from an electrical outlet on the ground floor of the house. However, it remains unclear which specific outlet caused the fire.

Police have not yet determined the cause of the fire. They will coordinate with forensic experts and relevant agencies to conduct a thorough investigation. The fire scene has been cordoned off for safety, and unauthorized persons are prohibited from entering the building.

Initial damage assessment shows one unit severely damaged, with all contents destroyed inside the house. The total value of damages is still being evaluated by officials.

Rare Bridal Veil Mushroom Spotted in Phayao Forest

A rare bridal veil stinkhorn mushroom with an elegant white lace-like veil appeared in a Phayao forest village, attracting locals to photograph the unusual fungus that smells like rotting flesh and withers within hours.

Rare Bridal Veil Mushroom Spotted in Phayao Forest
7 Jul Khaosod

Villagers in Dok Khamtai district of Phayao were surprised after a rare bridal veil stinkhorn mushroom emerged on the forest floor at the edge of their village, prompting many residents to photograph the unusual fungus, which is only occasionally seen.

The mushroom, known in Thai as hed rang rae, is also commonly called the bridal mushroom, bamboo pith mushroom or skirt mushroom because of its distinctive appearance. It features a brownish-green conical cap and a delicate white net-like veil hanging around its stalk, resembling a bride's lace dress.

Despite its elegant appearance, the mushroom produces a strong odour similar to rotting flesh. The smell is a natural adaptation that attracts flies and other insects, which feed on the slimy coating covering the cap and help disperse its spores.

The bridal veil stinkhorn typically grows in damp environments, including bamboo forests, mixed deciduous forests, orchards and areas covered with decaying leaves and rotting wood. It is most commonly found during the rainy season, from May to October.

The fungus has a very short lifespan. Its lace-like veil unfurls within hours before the mushroom quickly withers, making sightings rare and adding to its reputation as one of Thailand's more remarkable natural wonders.

NASA Planned Moon Soccer Ball Launch If US Won World Cup

NASA planned to send a World Cup soccer ball to the moon if the US won the 2026 tournament, but the dream ended when America lost to Belgium 1-4 in the Round of 16.

NASA Planned Moon Soccer Ball Launch If US Won World Cup
7 Jul Khaosod

According to Space.com, NASA had planned to send a soccer ball from the 2026 FIFA World Cup to the moon if the United States won the championship. However, that dream came to an end before the Round of 16 match between the US and Belgium began.

Before the game kicked off, NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said, "This would have been a little push for Team USA. We were aiming to go one step further than Alan Shepard, who played golf on the lunar surface. We would have brought a soccer ball there instead."

This incident occurred in 1971 when Shepard secretly brought two golf balls and a modified golf club aboard the Apollo 14 mission, making him the only NASA astronaut to play golf on the moon. However, the football mission was officially approved by NASA. "I don't yet know which landing vehicle it would have gone on," Isaacman said.

Regardless, the plan appears to have fallen through. The United States lost to Belgium 4-1 in the Round of 16 of the World Cup.

Maha Sarakham Health Officials Defend Liver Fluke Screening Results

Maha Sarakham health authorities screened 4,000 people for liver fluke infection using a new urine antigen test kit approved by Thailand's national health insurance office, defending the method against concerns about false positives.

Maha Sarakham Health Officials Defend Liver Fluke Screening Results
7 Jul Khaosod

On July 7, Dr. Hascha Neuoytong, the provincial public health officer for Maha Sarakham, addressed criticism surrounding the liver fluke screening program that found a large number of positive cases, raising concerns from multiple parties that the testing kit had low specificity and might produce many false positives.

Dr. Hascha clarified that the screening was a Maha Sarakham provincial health office project, with the office managing the program and screening at-risk populations. The testing used an innovation unit registered with the National Health Security Office (NHSO), which provided the testing service and funded it—not a kit the provincial office procured independently.

The testing kit, called the Urine Antigen Test Kit (Urine ATK), detects antigens from urine in a manner similar to COVID-19 ATK kits but identifies fragments of the liver fluke parasite rather than parasite eggs. "In the past, Thailand used stool examinations viewed under microscopes to find parasite eggs, which worked well because Thai people carried significant parasite loads, producing many eggs in stool," Dr. Hascha explained. "However, today Thai people use deworming medication more frequently, so parasite loads have decreased, leading to fewer eggs in stool and more false negative results from traditional screening."

Dr. Hascha noted that researchers from Khon Kaen University developed the new antigen detection technique to find parasite antigens in urine—pieces of the parasite such as waste it releases into the bloodstream or naturally shed skin fragments detectable in urine.

"Out of approximately 10,000 at-risk people screened, we found about 4,000 positive cases," Dr. Hascha stated. "Antigen testing detects infections better than stool egg detection because the absence of eggs doesn't mean no infection—parasites may not be releasing eggs yet or release so few they're undetectable. Antigen testing directly detects parasite fragments."

When asked if the screening covered everyone using this method, Dr. Hascha confirmed it did, screening many people simultaneously. The screening has tested over 10,000 people, finding approximately 4,000 positive cases as previously reported.

Dr. Hascha acknowledged the high detection rate was concerning, as previous control efforts were believed to have improved the situation based on lower stool test findings. "However, with this new testing method, we must reconsider whether the prevalence truly decreased or simply appeared lower with the old method. Further studies are needed to confirm the accuracy of antigen test results," he said. The Department of Disease Control is preparing to visit Maha Sarakham to investigate further.

Thailand Plans Early Retirement Program For Civil Servants

Thailand's deputy prime minister is pushing voluntary early retirement for civil servants aged 40 and up to cut government spending, with plans to replace traditional healthcare benefits with health insurance and reduce administrative posit

Thailand Plans Early Retirement Program For Civil Servants
7 Jul Khaosod

On July 7, 2569, Deputy Prime Minister Phakaron Nila-anantha outlined the government's strategy to allow voluntary early retirement for civil servants, with implementation planned for fiscal year 2570. The policy addresses ballooning recurring expenditures that have constrained the budget for public investment and assistance programs. The government aims to reduce the civil service workforce through a voluntary system while maintaining administrative positions only where necessary. Beyond budgetary concerns, the initiative capitalizes on technological advances that can replace routine office functions. Examples include eliminating typist positions, since personnel already possess computer and mobile skills, and streamlining administrative roles through technology adoption. However, Phakaron emphasized the rollout will be gradual, as technological readiness varies across agencies. Responding to questions about which positions may be reduced, he confirmed the program will begin with civil servants and potentially expand to local government, state enterprises, the military, and police, noting the armed forces and police are already implementing similar measures. When asked about proposed age criteria for early retirement, Phakaron noted that the current framework requires either at least two years of remaining service or age 55 or above. He suggested lowering the threshold to age 40, as younger retirees can more easily acquire new skills. However, he stopped short of setting a specific age minimum, stating the door should remain open for interested parties. Phakaron confirmed the program must be completed within fiscal year 2570 and indicated the government will rely on incentives rather than mandatory measures, including reskilling opportunities. The Civil Service Commission will oversee implementation, coordinating with the Comptroller General's Department, the Government Pension Fund, and the Insurance Commission to transition healthcare benefits from current medical welfare to health insurance coverage.
