Crime Suspect Achariya Sleeps Well on First Night in Jail
He spent his first night in jail sleeping well and ate a chicken clear soup breakfast while under quarantine, later revealing he suffers from cerebrovascular disease. Achariya Ruangratanaphong, chairman of the Crime Victims Assistance Club, was arrested on fraud, money laundering and illegal gambling charges involving 360 million baht in diverted donations. He remains in Bangkok Special Prison pending further investigation, with bail denied due to concerns over evidence tampering and flight risk.
He told officials he felt no stress and slept soundly during his first night in custody, eating a chicken clear soup breakfast while under quarantine. He disclosed a pre‑existing condition of cerebral thrombosis. The case stems from an October 2 criminal complaint accusing him of defrauding the public, laundering money and operating an illegal gambling network that funneled donations through his club’s accounts. Prosecutors say the scheme involved roughly 360 million baht. Police sought a 12‑day remand to interview witnesses, verify records and trace finances, and objected to bail, warning he could interfere with evidence or flee. After reviewing the request, the court rejected his bail application and ordered him held at Bangkok Special Prison. He is currently segregated in a vulnerable‑inmate ward, sharing a cell with three new arrivals and a prison health volunteer, and will complete quarantine on October 11 before further classification.
