The Tourism Authority of Thailand partnered with Cultured, a leading premium arts and contemporary culture publication from the United States, to host an exclusive reception and business networking event on September 12, 2026, at Thai Tavern Toronto during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF 2026). The gathering welcomed over 100 international film producers, directors, leading actors, and top creative professionals from around the world to launch a new dimension of filmmaking and tourism in Thailand under the campaign "Amazing Location Thailand: From Scene to Scenic."
Nidhi Sipaew, Deputy Governor for Communications and Marketing at the Tourism Authority of Thailand, welcomed guests and outlined the project's direction, emphasizing Thailand's exceptional readiness to host foreign film productions. The initiative focuses on presenting the value of filming locations not merely as scenic backdrops but as living places with stories that play a vital role in powerfully advancing and enriching storytelling. The concept also underscores "Healing is the New Luxury," reflected through the warmth and goodwill of local communities, combined with the expertise of Thai support teams who closely attend to production needs. This caring atmosphere revitalizes and inspires creative professionals, aligning with the Visitor Economy approach that prioritizes meaningful value, experience, and long-term sustainability.
The event was attended by prominent international figures in film and contemporary art, including Cameron Bailey, Chief Executive Officer of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in Canada; Taleeb Noormohamed, Member of Parliament of Canada and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation; and representatives from film producers, media outlets, and influential artists who engaged in close discussions on opportunities for collaborative film projects with Thailand.
The event's success reflected the integrated cooperation of "Team Thailand," with the Tourism Authority of Thailand working closely with the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) under the Ministry of Commerce and the Thailand Film Office under the Department of Tourism. Together they presented the readiness of Thailand's film industry across all dimensions, including internationally standard studios, skilled Thai talent, and financial incentive programs offering cash rebates of 20-30% for foreign productions—a key factor in building confidence and attracting global entertainment investment to Thailand.
Following the event, the Tourism Authority of Thailand will lead international film producers, directors, location scouts, artists, celebrities, and renowned influencers on field visits across 10 routes to experience Thailand's diverse geography and local cultures.
