The Tourism Authority of Thailand, through its Foreign Film and Video Business Division, will participate in the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) from September 10-16, 2026, at the Thai pavilion at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Canada. The goal is to promote Thailand's capabilities as a world-class film production destination and attract producers from Canada, the United States, and international markets to shoot in Thailand. This year marks the first time TIFF has hosted a dedicated film market and business transaction area alongside the festival, bringing together buyers, sellers, studios, filmmakers, production companies, and global investors.
Tourism Authority Director Chaturon Phakdeewanich stated that participation in TIFF represents an important opportunity to expand Thailand's film production market in North America, particularly in Canada and the United States, which are home to major filmmakers and world-leading studios and companies. The authority aims to showcase Thailand's potential and meet new producers to encourage them to film in the country. "Our key objective is to create business opportunities and attract new film producers from the North American market to shoot in Thailand, with a target of generating at least 500 million baht in production investment value throughout the festival period, which will benefit related businesses and distribute advantages to various sectors in the country," Chaturon said.
Ublawan Sucharitkul, director of the Foreign Film and Video Business Division, said the participation will present information that filmmakers consider important when selecting a country for production, including diverse filming locations, studios and production equipment, the capabilities of Thai personnel and crews, and the coordination and facilitation system for foreign film shoots in Thailand. A key incentive is the foreign film production cash rebate program of up to 30 percent. Thailand will be promoted under the concept "Thailand: Filming Paradise" to become better known in the international film industry. "Thailand is ready with diverse filming locations—from major cities to nature, sea, and mountains, as well as culturally distinctive sites—combined with experienced film production personnel and full-service studios and production services," Sucharitkul said. "The up-to-30-percent cash rebate and these other strengths will be presented directly to creators and producers from Canada, the United States, and foreign markets to establish Thailand as a key choice for global film production."
