Customs Region 2 has dismantled a major counterfeit goods warehouse in central Nakhon Ratchasima, seizing over 10,000 items valued at approximately 30 million baht.

On July 9, 2025, Nattaphoom Dokput, senior customs officer and head of investigation and enforcement at Customs Region 2, led a team of over 10 officials in raiding a warehouse in Sai Nam subdistrict, Muang district. The operation followed public complaints about trademark-infringing goods being sold via Facebook Live.

During the search, officers discovered 14 employees sorting counterfeit branded products including clothing, shoes, bags, belts, and hats from leading brands. The raid netted no fewer than 10,000 items, representing economic losses exceeding 30 million baht.

Nattaphoom stated the operation aligns with government policy and orders from the Finance Ministry and Customs Department leadership to crack down on illegal goods and intellectual property violations in the Northeast region. Officials had investigated and identified the warehouse as a distribution hub for smuggled counterfeit goods that bypassed customs procedures, leading them to obtain a search warrant from Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Court.

"All seized goods have been confiscated and will be examined in coordination with trademark representatives," Nattaphoom said. "We will vigorously prosecute all parties involved under customs law, which carries both imprisonment and fines. We caution consumers to be wary when purchasing online—if authentic-looking items are priced unusually low, they may be counterfeit or illegally smuggled goods. We also warn traders engaged in smuggling and selling such goods that this constitutes serious customs violations with severe penalties. Customs Region 2 will continue its investigation to apprehend all offenders and protect the economy and consumers."

Thai customs authorities have intercepted a major heroin smuggling attempt at Suvarnabhumi Airport. On July 9, 2026, the Customs Department's Investigation and Suppression Division, working with the Airport Interdiction Task Force (AITF), identified a high-risk passenger traveling from Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia with a connecting flight at Suvarnabhumi before continuing to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and ultimately to Ivato International Airport in Madagascar.

After X-ray screening revealed suspicious baggage anomalies, officials conducted a detailed search of the passenger's luggage near the departure gate. They discovered coffee bags, green tea packages, and various nutritional supplement products that concealed plastic bags containing white powder in clumps. Chemical testing confirmed the substance was heroin, weighing a total of 17.53 kilograms with an estimated street value of 7.3 million baht.

The suspect was taken into custody and referred to investigators for legal proceedings. Authorities are expanding their investigation to track accomplices both domestically and internationally. The Customs Department Director emphasized that this seizure demonstrates the agency's sophisticated risk analysis capabilities and successful inter-agency cooperation in blocking international drug trafficking networks from using Thailand as a transit route, reaffirming the government's commitment to protecting society from drug threats.

Bangkok Orders Evacuations Near Purple Line Tunnel Collapse
5h ago Khaosod

On July 9 at 5:50 p.m., Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, accompanied by Deputy Governor Vishnu Saraswat, inspected the Purple Line extension tunnel where water leaks are occurring along Ratchada Road near the Grand Roundabout, between Sao Ching and Rat Burana stations. The incident has prompted shop operators, clinics, and commercial buildings in the area to urgently evacuate their assets due to safety concerns.

After discussing the situation with construction contractors and relevant agencies, Governor Chadchart proceeded to a meeting to monitor ongoing developments. Police officers, municipal staff, Khlong San District officials, and contractor security personnel closed traffic on Ratchada Road from the Bangkhen intersection to the Grand Roundabout. They continuously measured road and building settlement using specialized equipment.

At 7:00 p.m., Governor Chadchart revealed that this tunnel section is on the same route as a previous incident near Vajira Hospital but involves a different contractor. The incident location is the tunnel's lowest point, functioning like a water trap, which caused water leakage and soil subsidence. The Mass Transit Authority and contractors are working to resolve the situation.

Bangkok's approach focuses on public safety at street level, with close monitoring of water leakage and soil settlement rates to assess whether damage will expand. A 30-meter surveillance radius has been established around the incident site. Approximately 60 residents from three buildings along Ratchada Road must evacuate for one week, with the most critical building already cleared. Neighboring buildings remain under strict surveillance with tilt and vibration sensors installed to provide instant alerts if anomalies are detected.

Traffic closure from the Bangkhen intersection to the Grand Roundabout aims to facilitate repair work and reduce vibrations affecting the incident area. Governor Chadchart stated that while the situation shows signs of stabilization, close monitoring remains essential. The primary solution involves stopping water infiltration and strengthening the soil layer—the contractor's responsibility to complete. Compensation for damages is also under discussion.

Klose Speaks With Messi After Record Broken
5h ago Khaosod

Miroslav Klose, legendary German striker, revealed he recently had a phone conversation with Lionel Messi of Argentina after breaking the all-time FIFA World Cup goal-scoring record.

The 48-year-old Klose, currently coaching Nuremberg, told club media he had the opportunity to speak with the player who just broke his previous record of 16 World Cup goals.

"It happened because Lionel Scaloni, Argentina's national team coach, was once my teammate when I played for Lazio in Italy. We've stayed in touch over the years, and he helped connect me with Messi after he matched my World Cup goal-scoring record. It was truly an emotional moment," Klose said.

"Messi and I have faced each other on the pitch 2-3 times, and it was always excellent and filled with mutual respect. But this phone conversation was the first time we had a longer chat off the field. He told me he would send me a signed jersey."

"I have no problem at all. If people will talk about me less, that record was going to be broken someday anyway. So I'm genuinely happy that Messi was the one to do it. I've been an admirer and a true fan of Messi all along," Klose added.

Police Bust Illegal Bitcoin Mining Operation in Abandoned Building

Police seized ten bitcoin mining machines from an abandoned building in Pathum Thani after authorities detected illegal power consumption; the operation bypassed meters and caused millions in state damages.

Police Bust Illegal Bitcoin Mining Operation in Abandoned Building
5h ago Khaosod

On July 9, 2025, Region 1 Police Commander Pol. Lt. Gen. Wattana Yicheen, together with Deputy Commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Wichit Boonchinawitthakul, authorized a search operation led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Warchart Seankhum of Region 1's Special Operations Unit. Officers executed search warrant 349/2569 issued by Thanyaburi Provincial Court on July 8, 2025, at a three-story commercial building in Tambon Khlong Nueng, Amphoe Khlong Luang, Pathum Thani Province. The operation was conducted after provincial electricity authorities reported abnormal power consumption at the abandoned building.

Officers discovered ten bitcoin mining machines installed on the third floor, concealed with soundproofing wall panels and carefully hidden wiring. The mining equipment's cooling fan noise was masked to resemble continuous air ventilation sounds. Preliminary investigation by electricity officials revealed that the electrical circuit had been illegally modified to bypass the meter, allowing unmetered power consumption for continuous digital mining operations. The state suffered damages valued at several million baht.

Confiscated evidence includes ten bitcoin mining machines, network equipment, internet signal receivers, electrical main switches, three-phase meters, breakers, and wiring. All materials were transferred to Khlong Luang Police Station for legal proceedings and further investigation to apprehend those responsible.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Wattana revealed that meter tampering or illegal direct power connections for digital mining constitutes night-time theft, punishable by up to five years imprisonment plus substantial civil damages owed to the electricity authority. He also warned that unauthorized electrical system modifications and excessive current usage in abandoned buildings pose serious risks of electrocution, short circuits, and fires that could endanger nearby residents and their property.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Phakpong Saiubol, spokesman for Region 1 Police, urged anyone with information about such violations to report tips to the emergency hotline 191 at any police station, available 24/7.

Doctor Recounts Mall Rescue, Urges Calling 1669 First

A doctor who assisted a seizure patient at a mall urges people to call emergency hotline 1669 first rather than attempting untrained first aid, while clarifying common misconceptions like never inserting objects in the mouth during seizures

Doctor Recounts Mall Rescue, Urges Calling 1669 First
5h ago Khaosod

Dr. Kong, officially Lt. Col. Nawapon Subunja, has recounted his quick response to help a patient experiencing seizures and bleeding in a shopping mall, emphasizing that calling 1669 should be the immediate priority. The National Institute of Emergency Medicine recognized his swift action in assisting the patient.

On July 9, Dr. Kong, participating in the 10th "Walk with Dharma" charity run at Boworniwet Temple's 100-year building, shared details of the incident and provided first-aid guidance.

"I happened to be at the mall and was about to leave when I noticed people looking at something, so I looked too," Dr. Kong explained. "I found a person lying down with commotion around them. I wasn't the first to notice the patient—another man was already there supporting the patient's head. When I checked, we learned the person was having a seizure, fell, and hit their head, with blood in their mouth.

"The first thing I wanted everyone to know is to call 1669. Don't overthink it. Helping someone is important, but remember we don't have medical equipment. So the first step is calling 1669. While we wait for them to arrive, we can assess the patient's condition."

Dr. Kong emphasized critical precautions: "If someone is still seizing, we must prevent their condition from worsening—watch for cardiac arrest and protect their airway from tongue biting. One major misconception is inserting a spoon in the mouth during seizures—this is absolutely prohibited. Instead, gently turn the patient to prevent tongue biting due to muscle tension. If the patient's heart hasn't stopped, there shouldn't be serious complications. Just wait for 1669 and hope the seizure stops. Once it does, you can communicate with the patient."

He added: "Calling 1669 is already helping because they arrive quickly and have proper equipment. If there's no cardiac arrest, basic care is sufficient. When calling 1669, don't be annoyed by their detailed questions about the patient's name, address, and health coverage. They ask many questions because they're simultaneously dispatching help. Modern technology automatically locates you via satellite. They ask these details to prepare proper medical response and determine the appropriate hospital based on the patient's insurance status, as sending every patient to the nearest hospital creates legal and financial complications."

Jo Long Accepts Apology In Defamation Case Settlement

Jo Long settled a five-month defamation case against a Facebook user who posted abusive comments about police and military officers, with the defendant apologizing in July at Chana Songkhram Police Station.

Jo Long Accepts Apology In Defamation Case Settlement
5h ago Khaosod

On July 9, Jo Long and his attorney Tam Weekaen visited Chana Songkhram Police Station to follow up on a defamation case filed against a Facebook user who posted abusive comments and made disparaging remarks toward police and military officers, calling them "rotten." The complaint was filed in February. Recently, the defendant met with investigators and formally apologized to Jo Long, his attorney, and the police, military, and government agencies mentioned in the posts. Both sides then entered mediation and resolved the dispute.

After the settlement, Jo Long revealed that the case took five months to resolve, from February to July, and is now completely closed. He emphasized that he pursued the case because he is a patriotic individual who works in public relations with the Thai Army, and he believes disrespecting military commanders and government officials is a sensitive matter for Thai nationals who love their country.

Jo Long stated that this legal action was not merely for personal reasons, but to serve as a lesson for those with inappropriate views toward the nation, and for those who disrespect soldiers and police. He noted that the defendant has now apologized to the Army, commanders, and relevant agencies as intended. He also addressed his song "One More Round," which he composed and performed for the Thai Army to boost morale, clarifying that performers typically speak before singing to explain the meaning of songs and convey messages of patriotism and support.

Jo Long also sent a message to fellow artists, urging them not to belittle each other since they all work in the same profession and should offer mutual support rather than criticism. He confirmed that throughout his life he has never sued anyone, despite frequent keyboard attacks, but made this case an example to show society that those who overstep boundaries or disrespect others and state institutions must be held accountable.

He revealed plans to compete in boxing this year to raise funds for injured soldiers as a way of giving back. Jo Long expressed gratitude to attorney Tam Weekaen for his guidance and support throughout the legal process, and stated his hope that this case will serve as an example showing that Thai people should love and unite with one another, without disrespecting fellow citizens or government officials serving the nation.
