Customs Seizes 30 Tons of Black Sticky Rice Worth 1.2 Million Baht
Thai customs seized 30 tons of black sticky rice worth 1.2 million baht from a truck on Highway 11 in Phitsanulok province, finding it lacked proper import documentation.
Thai customs officials seized 30 tons of black sticky rice worth over 1.2 million baht being illegally imported into the country. Officers from the Customs Bureau Region 3 intercepted a 22-wheel truck on Highway 11 between Inburi and Chiang Mai in Phitsanulok province on August 22, 2569, as part of their patrol to prevent illegal agricultural imports. Inspection revealed 30,000 kilograms of black sticky rice originating from outside Thailand, valued at approximately 1.2 million baht, with no proper customs clearance documentation. The cargo violates the Customs Act of 2560. Authorities seized the shipment and forwarded it to Mae Sot Customs House for legal action. The bust aligns with the Customs Department's Northern region enforcement directive to crack down on smuggled agricultural goods, protecting national interests and ensuring fair treatment for legitimate businesses. The department continues its "NEXT DRIVE CUSTOMS" strategy, acting as a social protector to safeguard state interests, support compliant traders, and protect public health and safety, using intelligence and technology to combat contraband smuggling.
