A video released on September 27 captured a dramatic incident that occurred on the evening of September 24 at the rear parking area of Koh Samui Police Station in Surat Thani province. In the footage, a car can be seen driving into the parking area and accelerating toward a group of parked vehicles, striking four cars and causing considerable damage. At the same time, a man attempted to lay down a tire to stop the vehicle but stumbled and fell, nearly being hit by the oncoming car. He managed to roll away just in time as people shouted warnings. The car continued moving through the parking area before leaving the scene.
Police were able to control the situation and detained the driver, identified as Deputy Investigator Police Sergeant "W" from Koh Samui Police Station and a 77th intake police sergeant cadet. He was taken to Koh Samui Hospital for treatment and later transferred to Suan Saranrom Hospital on September 25.
According to Panya Nirattimanont, superintendent of Koh Samui Police Station, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on September 24, resulting in damage to four vehicles parked in the rear lot. Prior to this incident, the officer had no history of recklessness or violent behavior. Investigators charged him with property damage. Insurance claims for the damaged vehicles are being processed.
Initial information indicates that Deputy Investigator "W" has been undergoing psychiatric treatment. He was on medical leave from duty approximately one year ago and had been assigned to assist with online crime cases and document work to reduce work-related stress. His service weapon has been secured. The police station has established a fact-finding committee to conduct a disciplinary investigation.
