Detainee's Health Stable Despite Food and Water Strike

The Department of Corrections confirmed on September 3 that it is providing care to Prommasorn, also known as Fa Likhit Viratham Chari, an Article 112 detainee held at Thanyaburi District Prison, in accordance with international standards and humanitarian principles. Medical staff are closely monitoring the detainee, whose vital signs remain normal but who is experiencing mild weakness.

The detainee, whose case is still under consideration, has been refusing food and water since August 31 in an effort to request bail. According to reports from September 2, doctors at Thanyaburi Hospital examined and assessed his condition, confirming that his vital signs remained within normal range but with mild fatigue.

Thanyaburi District Prison manages and cares for all detainees according to standard operating procedures and international guidelines. On September 2, hospital doctors examined Prommasorn and found normal vital signs with mild weakness caused by low blood sugar. He was administered intravenous saline solution and continues to be monitored closely. Prison medical staff and volunteer health workers have been assigned to watch for any changes in his condition, and he will be transferred to external medical care immediately if necessary, based on medical recommendation.

A psychological evaluation was conducted, with a psychologist speaking with and assessing his mental state in detail, finding that Prommasorn has normal mental health, can communicate, and is able to carry out daily activities.

The Department of Corrections affirmed that all detainees receive care according to humanitarian principles and equal public health standards. The department is prepared to arrange immediate transfer to external hospitals in case of medical emergency, with detainee safety as the priority.
