District Aids Elderly Woman Walking Flood Waters for Fish Sauce
Sappaya District officials assisted 78‑year‑old Somphong after she walked through chest‑high floodwaters to buy fish sauce when she ran out at home. After a reporter rescued her, the district supplied relief goods, arranged a boat for her transport, and asked village leaders to check on her daily. The aid aims to keep her safe and comfortable while floodwaters persist.
Sappaya District and Pho Nang Dam Tok Municipality have jointly delivered essential consumer goods and relief items to Grandma Somphong to ease her immediate hardship, and have inquired about her needs during the flood situation. She expressed a need for a boat to travel to and from her home while waters remain. Accordingly, the district arranged a boat for her use to ensure safer and more convenient travel during the flooding. On October 5, 2026 at 10:00 a.m., district officials led by Nang Laddawan Phasuphan investigated the scene, provided encouragement and assistance, and confirmed that she lives with her grandson, Phanatsak Lekhawattanaphong, who normally cares for her but was away working outside the home when she went out to obtain fish sauce. After finding that salt made her food unpalatable, she grew weak in the floodwaters, but a reporter rescued her and returned her home safely. The authorities also pledged to have village heads, assistant heads, and municipal council members visit her daily to monitor her condition and provide any further assistance needed throughout the flood period.
