Doctor Jed Warns New Diabetes May Signal Pancreatic Cancer
Doctor Jed warns that sudden diabetes in people over 50 may be an early warning of pancreatic cancer. He highlights six key symptoms—unexplained weight loss, jaundice, abdominal or back pain, loss of appetite, and others—that warrant medical evaluation. Early detection can improve treatment outcomes and help determine the true cause of the diabetes.
Doctor Jed explains that the pancreas produces insulin to control blood sugar, and pancreatic cancer can disrupt insulin release, leading to new-onset diabetes. He notes that while most new diabetes cases are not due to cancer, doctors should consider other causes when blood sugar rises quickly in those over 50, especially if accompanied by unexplained weight loss of 4–5 kilograms in a few months. Persistent upper abdominal or back pain that feels like indigestion, loss of appetite, early satiety, and jaundice—yellowing of the skin and eyes with dark urine—are also warning signs. He advises that any ongoing symptoms, particularly when combined with weight loss or reduced appetite, should be evaluated by a doctor to rule out serious conditions including pancreatic cancer.
