On September 18, Paveena Hongsukul, founder of the Paveena Foundation for Children and Women, revealed that she received an emergency call from a woman known as 'Lek' (pseudonym), 34, from Chachoengsao Province, requesting help for her 14-year-old granddaughter who had been sexually assaulted by her drug-addicted father. The man, identified as 'M' (pseudonym), 43, had climbed through a second-floor window at 3 a.m. on September 17 to enter his sleeping daughter's room, covering her mouth before assaulting her. He left at 5 a.m. as if nothing had happened. The terrified girl walked to her aunt's room on the same floor, crying and telling her "Father raped me."
Lek said she had raised her granddaughter since infancy as her own daughter, as both the girl's parents are drug addicts with frequent jail records. After his recent release, M had returned home still using drugs and refusing to work, while the girl's mother had disappeared. The granddaughter had only recently moved to her own bedroom, less than a month before the assault, and always locked the door. The family never imagined M would do this to his own daughter.
When the aunt and grandmother learned of the assault, they initially feared reporting it, worried M might harm the girl and flee. They eventually took the child out on a pretense, then filed a complaint at Mueang Chachoengsao Police Station. The victim underwent a medical examination at a hospital before reporting the case to the Paveena Foundation. After Paveena coordinated with Colonel Pongsun Mesri, superintendent of Mueang Chachoengsao Police, and Deputy Colonel Sarawuth Seeryukyim to arrest the father, police found drugs in his body and confirmed his history of repeated imprisonment. The foundation arranged psychological support for the victim at a shelter and is now assisting the girl's safe return home. Paveena thanked the police officers for their swift action and said the foundation will coordinate with the Department of Rights and Freedoms and the Ministry of Social Development to secure compensation and ongoing mental health support for the victim.
