Drug-Crazed Man With Knife Shot Dead by Official, Kills Villager
A drug-influenced man armed with a knife was shot dead by a district administrator in Nakhon Phanom province, but the bullet fatally struck the village headman instead, sparking a negligence charge against the official.
A 33-year-old man, Kittisak, under the influence of drugs and armed with a knife, attempted to attack residents and police officers in Moo 8, Phon Thong subdistrict, Ban Paeng district, Nakhon Phanom province on September 11. During the incident, Pawit, 47, an administrator for Ban Paeng district, fired a 9mm weapon in self-defense to stop the man. However, the bullet struck Wasana Srikarasorn, 52, the village headman of Moo 8, in the chest, causing severe injuries. Wasana was taken to the hospital but died shortly after. Kittisak was also shot in the left arm and was admitted for treatment. Police Inspector Theeravaht Dungkasae from Ban Paeng Police Station collected evidence and summoned Pawit to face preliminary charges of negligence causing death. The drug-affected man remains detained pending legal proceedings.
