Drug-Addled Man Attacks Home With Knife, Caught in Scuffle
A drug-intoxicated man armed with a curved knife broke into a home in Udon Thani province, accusing residents of cursing him before being chased away; he was arrested after previously attacking the same house last year.
On September 12, police responded to an incident at a home in Moo 7, Ban Chan subdistrict, Ban Dung district, Udon Thani province. A 30-year-old man named O, intoxicated and hallucinating from drug use, broke into the house brandishing a large curved-blade knife with intent to attack the occupants. Residents woke and chased him, forcing him to flee back across the way to his own home. During his escape, he also struck a neighbor's dog with the knife handle.
Reporters interviewed Jetu, 65, the homeowner. She explained that on the night of the incident (September 9), O had ridden his motorcycle past their home during the day threatening to hurt them. Around 4 p.m., he returned, shouting for residents to come outside. Armed with the large curved knife, he called out accusations that Jetu's daughter had placed a curse on him. Only her son-in-law and grandson confronted O, leading to a chase around the property while O continued shouting threats and abuse.
This was not O's first attack. In October the previous year, he had broken in threatening and damaging property. He was arrested and imprisoned for seven months, released just three months ago. Since his release, he has resumed drug use, relapsed into hallucinations, and now has struck again. Police have apprehended O. Residents feel some relief but remain uncertain whether future attacks will occur if he is released again.
