In Udon Thani, a 35-year-old man high on drugs burst into a home and stabbed a young mother in the abdomen as she rocked her four-month-old daughter in a cradle beneath the house on September 10. The woman suffered a serious abdominal wound with ruptured intestines and remains hospitalized in critical condition at Ban Dung Somdet Phra Yupharak Hospital since the attack. Security camera footage captured the man running from his nearby house, shouting, and entering the victim's home. The frightened mother tried to flee but fell; the attacker then stabbed her once in the abdomen before her husband and relatives subdued him. The suspect escaped and ran back to his own home before police tracked him down to a rubber plantation and brought him to Ban Dung Police Station for processing.
This was not the first incident—video evidence shows the same man previously broke into the victim's home on August 10, carrying a knife and threatening her, boasting he did not fear police. The victim's husband told reporters he and the attacker were childhood friends with no prior conflict, and believes the assault was triggered by drug-induced hallucinations. He expressed deep distress over his wife's injuries, their four-month-old daughter being unable to breastfeed, and fear that the suspect may reoffend once released from custody. He called for the maximum penalty in the case.
Police have filed three grave charges: attempted premeditated murder, housebreaking, and drug possession. The suspect faces several years imprisonment on all counts.
