A volunteer member of the Ta Kradan Subdistrict Administration Organization's elephant monitoring team was killed on September 15 at 6 p.m. after being attacked by a wild elephant in Nong Kratin village, Ta Kradan subdistrict, Ta Takiap district, Chachoengsao province. Subdistrict Administrator Somphuettee Kulsari received word of the attack from the volunteer monitoring team and dispatched emergency medical personnel and coordinated with Regiment 1306 rangers and Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary staff to the scene.
At the location, rescuers found Panno, age 58, head of the elephant monitoring volunteer team and a member of the Ta Kradan Subdistrict Administration Organization, unconscious and severely injured, his body soaked in blood. Despite CPR attempts by rescue personnel, he could not be revived. His wife arrived at the scene after learning of the incident and collapsed while embracing his lifeless body, requiring community members to provide support.
Investigators determined that the volunteer team had been alerted by residents about a large rogue elephant that had broken through the elephant barrier and was entering farmland. As the monitoring team leader, the victim joined efforts to herd the animal away but was attacked and killed in the process. Subdistrict Administrator Somphuettee Kulsari has requested continued deployment of rangers and wildlife officers from Regiment 1306 and the Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary to monitor the area, as the elephant remains in the vicinity.
