At 11:30 p.m. on July 4, 2025, Pattaya City Police Station received a report of a vehicle collision at a red light intersection on Sukhumvit Road in Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. A green Tank 500 SUV with Bangkok license plate 3ขธ 6000 had rear-ended a black Toyota Yaris, which was waiting at the light, causing severe damage to the rear of the Yaris. Two motorcycles parked nearby were also hit and damaged, with minor injuries reported.
The Yaris driver, Thawatchai, 37, reported that the Chinese tourist's SUV approached at high speed and struck his vehicle hard, pushing it forward to collide with two motorcycles ahead. Upon inspection, both the driver and passenger appeared intoxicated, reeked of alcohol, and spoke incoherently. They initially attempted to drive away and offered money to settle the matter privately, but Thawatchai refused and stopped the engine, alerting police.
At the scene, a Chinese companion of the driver began verbally confronting journalists and attempted to block video recording, displaying aggressive and disruptive behavior. Police intervened to control the situation and brought both individuals to Pattaya City Police Station.
At the station, the investigating officer requested the driver submit to an alcohol breath test in a closed room while asking media not to record. The driver refused to comply with the breathalyzer test. Police detained him in a holding cell pending legal proceedings.
