Thai Tennis Star Mananya Falls To Czech World No. 9 At Wimbledon
Thai tennis player Mananya Sawanggaew lost to Czech world No. 9 Carolina Muchova 6-2, 7-6 in the Wimbledon third round on July 3, becoming only the second Thai woman to reach that stage of the Grand Slam tournament.
At the Wimbledon 2026 Grand Slam tennis tournament in England on July 3, Thai player Mananya Sawanggaew, ranked 164th in the world, faced a tough test against world No. 9 Carolina Muchova of Czech Republic in the women's singles third round.
Despite fighting back from 2-4 down in the first set and competing fiercely, Mananya couldn't match the Czech player's strong serving and defensive skills. Muchova won the first set 6-2.
In the second set, Mananya showed resilience and took a 3-2 lead before extending it to 5-3. However, despite fighting back to level at 6-6, she ultimately lost the tiebreak 1-7, falling 0-2 in sets with a final score of 2-6, 6-7 (1-7).
Mananya became the second Thai female tennis player to reach the third round at Wimbledon, following Tamarine Tanasugarn. Though defeated, she earned a consolation prize of 185,000 pounds, approximately 8.2 million baht.
