Young Monk Fatally Struck By 11-Year-Old Driver
A young monk died after being struck by a pickup truck driven by an 11-year-old in Mukdahan province; another monk was severely injured in the accident.
On July 3, 2026, rescue personnel transferred the body of Phra Khamsing Chaiyalert, a young temple resident who died when struck by a pickup truck driven by an 11-year-old, to Wat Siri Tham Maram temple in Phueang district, Khon Kaen province. The monk had been struck by the vehicle while returning from alms-gathering rounds in Mukdahan province. The accident claimed his life, while another monk, Phra Yongyuth Kham Kaeo, sustained severe injuries including broken left arm, right leg, and fractured pelvis.
At 7 p.m. on the same day, the royal funeral committee performed the royal water blessing ceremony personally approved by His Majesty the King. Deputy Governor Prachuap Rakkhaet represented the monarchy in presenting royal wreaths and garlands from the King and the royal family to honor Phra Khamsing Chaiyalert. A royal gift presentation ceremony followed before chanting of Buddhist sutras led by monks from Wat Nong Waeng.
Funeral rites for Phra Khamsing Chaiyalert are scheduled for three days and nights from Friday, July 3 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Wat Siri Tham Maram. The royal cremation ceremony is planned for Monday, July 6, 2026 at 4 p.m., with the monastic community, family, disciples, and local residents in mourning.
