Eight‑Year‑Old Boy Seeks Help After Mother’s Death in Buriram
An 8‑year‑old boy in Buriram province ran through the rain to ask for help after finding his bedridden mother unresponsive. Villagers discovered the mother had died and quickly arranged a funeral, while the boy’s future care remains uncertain. Officials are being urged to find a suitable placement for the child.
On October 16, 2025, Waenpet, 53, the wife of the village head of Moo 14 in Lakhet subdistrict, Mueang district, Buriram province, posted a photo on Facebook of a boy who had run through the rain to her house, saying his mother would not respond. She wrote that the boy ran through the rain to tell her to check on his mother, who was not speaking, and that she felt sorry for him. She later learned the mother had died. Waenpet said that at about 9:00 a.m. the previous day, the boy, named Kai, 8, came to her house drenched, explaining that his mother was unresponsive and he wanted someone to help. When she asked if he had eaten, he replied he had not eaten since the previous day. She gave him two bowls of rice before calling villagers to check on the mother, whose home lay about three kilometers from the village. Upon arrival, they found the mother, identified as Nujari, 43, deceased inside the house. Village head Sombut Krasomram said Nujari had been bedridden with a lung illness for the past three to four months after the death of her husband and the boy’s grandmother. Villagers had been supplying rice and dry food to support the boy. The villagers quickly collected money and held a cremation ceremony the same day. It remains uncertain where Kai will go; relatives live in Phanom Phrai district, Buriram, but it is unclear whether they will take him in, as some feel unsuitable. There is a possibility he may stay at a local temple under the care of a monk, while officials are urged to find a better arrangement. Teacher Sriprasat Kram, Kai’s homeroom teacher, said she learned of his situation when his mother fell ill; the school and teachers have tried to share food, and she feels deep sympathy for the boy, who has no relatives to guide him.
