Electric Car Catches Fire While Charging at Nonthaburi Home
A popular-brand electric sedan caught fire while charging at a Nonthaburi home on August 5, completely destroying the vehicle and damaging a nearby pickup truck; preliminary findings suggest the fire originated from the charger.
Firefighters responded quickly to extinguish a major fire involving a popular-brand electric sedan charging inside a home in Chai Pruk subdistrict, Nonthaburi province, on August 5 at 11:30 a.m. Officers from Chai Pruk Police Station coordinated with Khlong Khoi subdistrict firefighters, who arrived to find the sedan engulfed in flames. It took approximately 10 minutes of water spraying to control the fire, but the vehicle was completely destroyed. The flames also spread to an adjacent pickup truck, damaging its front section and engine bay.
The 54-year-old car owner said he had left the vehicle charging while running errands at Nonthaburi Central Administrative Center that morning, monitoring the car remotely via a mobile app. He was alerted by his girlfriend to the fire and rushed home. "The car was delivered in April 2025," he explained. "Before purchase, I had the wiring inspected and found no problems. The charging unit installed at the dealership was also fine. I'm confused how this happened—there were no prior warnings."
A neighbor revealed hearing a small explosion while inside his home, then spotting thick smoke before flames broke out. He immediately called Chai Pruk Police to request firefighters, fearing the blaze would spread to his property. Within about five minutes, the subdistrict fire truck arrived and rapidly sprayed water to control the flames. Provincial forensic officers later inspected the scene and found the charging unit completely destroyed. Preliminary findings suggest the fire originated from the charger and spread to the vehicle, triggering combustion in the car itself. Detailed investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause.
