Electric Car Fills With Smoke At Market, Battery Suspected

At 5:30 a.m. on September 9, 2026, Kukhot Police received a report of a vehicle fire in the parking area in front of a convenience store at Nanajarin Market in Kukhot subdistrict, Lam Luk Ka district, Pathum Thani province. Officers and firefighting teams from Lam Samkhaew and Kukhot municipalities responded to find a Bangkok-registered electric car emitting thick smoke continuously from beneath and the rear of the vehicle, alarming shoppers and market-goers. The vehicle owner, Mr. Banchaa (surname withheld), said he was traveling to Bangkok and had fully charged the battery before leaving home. He stopped at the market to buy breakfast but noticed a battery symbol on the dashboard before getting out. He planned to visit a service center in the Khlong Song area when it opened at 8:00 a.m., but when he returned from shopping, he found heavy smoke billowing from under and behind the car—the same area where the battery is installed. Firefighters used water to control the smoke, which had no visible flames at first but continued pouring out. No injuries were reported as the owner had already turned off the engine and exited the vehicle. The exact cause remains unknown, but the smoke originated from the rear area where the battery is located. Technicians from the service center will conduct a detailed inspection.
