CKPower Launches 5 MW Solar Project in Second Half
CKPower has launched a 5-megawatt solar project with Bangkok's transit system in September, expanding its renewable energy capacity across Thailand's transport sector. The company expects strong power generation in the second half of 2026 f
Bangkok, Sept 8, 2026 — Thanawat Treewisuwiwat, chief executive of CKPower Public Company Limited (SET: CKP), one of the region's largest renewable energy producers with a low carbon footprint, announced the company's operational direction for the second half of 2026. CKPower has commenced commercial operations on a 5-megawatt solar power project developed jointly with Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited (BEM) in September. This expansion of renewable energy capacity will support the adoption of renewable energy in Thailand's transport and infrastructure systems while providing continuous growth opportunities for the clean energy business.
The company continues to monitor water conditions closely. During the first six months of 2026, water flow through the Xayaburi hydroelectric plant exceeded the same period last year by 17.7 percent, resulting in a 11.2 percent increase in electricity sales. This reflects favorable water conditions in the Mekong River during the first half. For the second half of 2026, CKPower expects water conditions to remain supportive of power generation at Xayaburi Power Company Limited (XPCL), based on rainfall across the Mekong basin and forecasted upstream discharge patterns. Water releases from upstream areas in China are expected to remain high from October through early November, with possible additional releases in December, supporting water levels in the Mekong during the fourth quarter. CKPower estimates that in late 2026, particularly in Q4, water flow through the Xayaburi plant will be at good levels and slightly above average. The company is monitoring conditions closely using the Hydrometeorological Monitoring and Forecasting System to improve accuracy in water volume forecasting and power generation planning.
At Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand's Nam Ngum 2 plant (NN2), usable water in the reservoir stood at 32.53 percent of capacity at the end of July 2026, with room to accommodate increased inflow during the rainy season. Inflows are expected to rise during the remainder of Q3 from monsoon activity and upstream water conditions, supporting readiness for power generation in the second half. The company managed electricity availability cautiously during the first half.
Following Q1 maintenance, the Bangpakong Cogeneration Company Limited (BIC) plant has returned to full production capacity, supporting power generation and sales in the second half.
Thanawat said: "In the second half, CKPower has multiple supporting factors: new generating capacity from the solar project with BEM, continued favorable water conditions for XPCL generation, rising water levels at NN2, and the return to normal operations of BIC following scheduled maintenance. These strengthen our overall portfolio capacity. We will maximize efficiency of our existing assets while incrementally adding renewable energy capacity to support sustained business growth and build long-term strength in our energy portfolio."
