Heavy Rain Alert Issued for September 9-13
Thailand faces heavy to very heavy rainfall from September 9-13, with flash flooding risks in northern and southern regions as a monsoon trough and low-pressure system intensify across the country.
The Meteorological Department issued its fifth alert on September 9, 2025, warning of heavy to very heavy rain across Thailand with impacts expected through September 13. On September 9, heavy rainfall is forecast particularly in the North, Northeast, Central, and Eastern regions due to a cold air mass from Vietnam and Laos pushing a monsoon trough southward, combined with moderate southwest monsoon winds covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
From September 10-13, the lower Northeast, Central Region, Bangkok and surrounding areas, Eastern, and Southern regions will continue experiencing rainfall with heavy to very heavy amounts in some areas, while the North and upper Northeast will see decreasing rain. A high-pressure system from China will bring a monsoon trough across the lower Central, lower Northeast, and Eastern regions into a deep low-pressure system forming in the central South China Sea, with strengthening southwest monsoon winds over the Andaman Sea, South, and Gulf of Thailand.
The public in Thailand's northern and southern regions is warned to be cautious of dangers from heavy rainfall accumulation, which may cause sudden flash flooding and flash floods, particularly in hillside areas near waterways and low-lying areas. Travel through flood-prone routes should be avoided, especially in low-lying areas where temporary water accumulation is possible. The low-pressure system in the central South China Sea may intensify into a tropical cyclone in coming days.
