Health authorities in Chiang Mai have issued a warning after discovering unregistered drug sets with labels in Burmese language being sold illegally. The medications contain unknown ingredients contaminated with steroids and pose serious health risks including kidney failure and death. Illegal drug sellers face fines up to 5,000 baht and up to 5 years imprisonment for selling unregistered medicines, or fines up to 10,000 baht and up to 5 years for selling drug sets. The public is urged to report any illegal drug sales immediately by calling the Department of Health Hotline at 1556 or contacting the nearest provincial health office. Chiang Mai provincial health officials recommend purchasing medications only from licensed pharmacies and consulting doctors or pharmacists before use.
