Thai Students Jump 5 Rankings in Global Test Scores
Thai students improved significantly in the 2025 PISA assessment, climbing five rankings to 53rd globally with gains across science, mathematics, and reading as the government prepares to launch an AI learning framework in schools.
The government has expressed satisfaction as Thai students' average scores in the 2025 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) improved across all three tested subjects, moving Thailand from 58th place in 2022 to 53rd place in 2025. Deputy government spokesperson Patdararasmi Tongsluayakorn announced that science scores rose to 432 points (up 23), mathematics reached 407 points (up 13), and reading scored 392 points (up 13) compared to 2022 results.
The gains reflect improvements in critical reasoning, analytical thinking, data comprehension, and practical knowledge application among Thai students. Thailand was among only eight countries and economies where all three subject scores increased significantly between assessments. The proportion of students reaching at least basic proficiency also grew, with gains of 12 percent in science, 9 percent in mathematics, and 6 percent in reading.
The Ministry of Education is preparing to launch an AI learning framework for both students and teachers by year's end, with plans to embed media literacy and responsible AI skills starting from primary education. Thailand scored 476 points in computational problem-solving under PISA's digital learning assessment. Officials stressed that PISA results should guide education development strategy rather than serve merely as rankings, with the data to be analyzed at national, regional, school, and student-group levels. The 2029 PISA round will add media and AI literacy assessment, making early skill-building in these areas increasingly important.
