On August 3, rescue volunteers from Mueang Samut Songkhram received a report of a large coconut tree that had collapsed onto a residential building in Tambon Lad Yai, Mueang District, Samut Songkhram Province. A woman sustained serious injuries in the incident.
The affected property was a single-story rented row house. Rescuers found a approximately 10-meter-tall coconut tree that had toppled onto the structure, punching a large hole through the roof and ceiling. Building materials, wood debris, and coconut fragments were scattered throughout the bedroom and bathroom areas, with two rooms suffering severe damage.
The injured woman was inside the bathroom attending to personal matters when she suddenly heard a loud crash before the roof, debris, and coconut tree collapsed onto her, causing serious injuries. Emergency responders quickly transported her to Somdej Phra Phutthaloetla Hospital for treatment.
Initial investigation revealed that a contractor had been hired to fell the large coconut tree in the adjacent property. However, a critical error in controlling the direction of the fall caused the tree to lose stability and crash violently into the neighboring rental home.
