Father and Son Clash Over Religious Dispute, Fight Leaves Son With 13 Stitches
A father and son in Prachuap Khiri Khan province clashed over comments about corrupt monks, resulting in a machete and knife fight that left the 30-year-old son requiring 13 stitches to his arm.
At 2:30 p.m. on September 11, rescue workers in Prachuap Khiri Khan province responded to an assault call at a residence in Ban Si Liam Non Thong village. They found Paiwalai, known as Jack, 30, with a severe laceration to his left arm bleeding heavily. He was taken to Prachuap Hospital where doctors sutured the wound with 13 stitches. The suspect was identified as Lamduan, 52, Jack's father, who was intoxicated with bruises on his torso and abdomen.
According to Jack's mother, Saibua, 58, the dispute began when Lamduan was drinking with neighbors on the porch and commented dismissively about Buddhist monks in relation to news about a prominent monk named Somchai who had been arrested for allegedly embezzling temple funds and money laundering. Jack, listening nearby, disagreed and argued that many respected monks still existed, including Phrayom. The argument escalated when Jack grabbed a machete and struck his father twice. Lamduan then grabbed a kitchen knife and slashed Jack's arm during the ensuing struggle, causing the injuries.
Jack acknowledged losing his temper over his father's derogatory comments about monks, grabbing the machete to attack him. During the confrontation, he hit his father's abdomen, breaking the machete handle, while his father's knife cut his left arm. Local headman Wimol, 49, explained that the initial dispute stemmed from the Somchai case combined with Lamduan's severe intoxication, leading to a conflict with his son, who is a fan of Phrayom. Police are continuing their investigation and gathering evidence for legal proceedings.
