Firefighters Monitor Oil Leak Under Bangkok Bridge
Firefighters are maintaining round-the-clock monitoring of an oil leak contaminating drainage pipes beneath Bangkok's Rama 3 bridge, with authorities preparing to excavate and inspect an underground pipeline for defects.
Firefighters are maintaining a 24-hour watch over an area where oil has contaminated drainage pipes along Chuea Phloeng Road and beneath the Rama 3 elevated bridge, as authorities prepare to excavate the ground and inspect an underground oil pipeline for possible defects.
The Khlong Toei Fire and Rescue Station deployed firefighters and fire engines to monitor the area and prevent a possible fire following the discovery of oil contamination in the drainage system near Chuea Phloeng Road and beneath the Rama 3 elevated road bridge, around the boundary between Khlong Toei and Yannawa districts.
Firefighting foam, fire engines and additional personnel have been placed on standby as a precaution. Access to the area is being strictly controlled, while officials are monitoring the concentration of flammable vapour, measured as the lower explosive limit (LEL), both on the road surface and in surrounding areas.
If LEL readings rise to around 15-20 per cent, officials are prepared to implement measures to reduce the risk of fire. Authorities are also preparing to excavate sections of the road to inspect the pipeline. Excavation equipment and drilling machinery will be brought into the area to expose the ground and search for possible defects along the oil pipeline.
Supharerk Sapsiri, director of the Fire and Rescue Operations Division 2, inspected the site to assess the situation and support firefighters working in the area. Officials have stressed the importance of safety precautions throughout the operation, particularly while excavation and pipeline inspections are underway.
