Fire Department on Alert Over Oil Leak in Bangkok Drain
Bangkok fire crews stationed equipment and personnel along Cheuasongkram Road to contain fire risks from an oil leak in drainage pipes near the Rama III bridge, with excavation work beginning to inspect the damaged pipeline.
On September 9, Khlong Toei Fire and Rescue Station deployed firefighting personnel and equipment to monitor and prevent fire hazards from oil contamination in drainage pipes along Cheuasongkram Road and beneath the Rama III elevated bridge, at the boundary of Khlong Toei and Yan Nawa districts in Bangkok.
The team prepared firefighting foam, fire trucks, and support personnel at high-risk locations to maintain round-the-clock area surveillance with strict access control. Should flammable vapor concentration (LEL) measurements at ground level and surrounding areas reach approximately 15–20 percent, firefighters are ready to implement risk-reduction measures.
Today, excavation and pipeline survey work is set to begin, with equipment and drilling vehicles brought in to inspect the oil transmission pipeline for defects and damage. Supharak Sapsiri, director of Fire and Rescue Operations Unit 2, personally visited the site to assess the situation and encourage staff, emphasizing the importance of workplace safety.
