The Meteorological Department issued its sixth heavy rainfall warning on September 9, 2026, affecting Thailand through September 13. Heavy to very heavy rain is expected across the North, Northeast, Central, and Eastern regions on September 9 due to a cold air mass moving through northern Vietnam and Laos, combined with a moderate southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand.
From September 10 to 13, the Lower Northeast, Central region including Bangkok and surrounding areas, Eastern region, and Southern region will experience continuous rainfall with heavy to very heavy downpours in some areas. The North and Upper Northeast will see decreased rainfall as a cold air mass from China moves in. The monsoon trough will shift southward, and the southwest monsoon will strengthen over the Andaman Sea, Southern region, and Gulf of Thailand.
The public is warned to be cautious of dangers from heavy rainfall and accumulated water that may cause flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in foothill areas near water channels and low-lying zones. Travel through repeatedly flooded routes should be avoided, especially in low-lying areas at risk of sudden inundation. Between September 11 and 13, a strong low-pressure system over the central South China Sea may intensify into a tropical cyclone, expected to approach northern Vietnam's coast around September 14 to 15. Heavy rain expected in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Sukhothai, Uttaradit, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit (North); Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Si Sa Ket, Ubon Ratchathani (Northeast); Nakhon Sawan, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Lopburi, Saraburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Bangkok and surrounding areas (Central); Nakhon Nayok, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Sa Kaew, Chachoengsao, Chanthaburi, and Trat (East); and Ranong and Phang Nga (South).
