Fire Guts 50-Year-Old Pavilion at Samut Prakan Temple
A fire destroyed a more than 50‑year‑old wooden pavilion at Wat Kru Nai in Samut Prakan early on 11 October 2026. Over twenty fire trucks from local municipalities and volunteer units brought the blaze under control, with no injuries or deaths reported. Authorities are investigating the cause, which is suspected to be an electrical short circuit.
According to Phra Kru Winayathor Suwijak Pho Thero, 42, of Wat Kru Nai, he saw nothing unusual when he went to the toilet around 01:30, but by approximately 02:00 the pavilion began to burn, likely due to an electrical short circuit in the old building that stored flammable materials. He heard cracking plaster before flames erupted inside. Local resident Suptanan (surname withheld), 16, initially thought someone was lighting firecrackers, but when he saw flames spreading into the flower‑storage room he called the police. Firefighters from Lad Luang Municipality and surrounding agencies arrived quickly and brought the blaze under control. Police have sealed off the area and are awaiting forensic investigators to determine the exact cause.
