Fire Razes Bon Kai Community, Bangkok Governor Deploys Emergency Aid
A pre-dawn fire destroyed over 70 homes in Bangkok's Bon Kai community Monday, prompting Governor Chadchart to deploy emergency shelter and aid for displaced families.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt inspected the Bon Kai community early Monday after a fire broke out at 12:51 a.m. in a dense row of two-story wooden houses near Soi Plukchit 1 in Pathum Wan district. Flames spread rapidly through the tightly packed structures. Firefighters from the Bon Kai station and allied agencies brought the blaze under control by 1:53 a.m. and fully extinguished it by 2:37 a.m. No injuries or deaths were reported initially. Governor Chadchart walked the site, speaking with residents, community leaders, police, and fire officials. Over 70 households have registered as affected, and city hall is still surveying the damage to ensure comprehensive aid. A temporary shelter was moved from a community pavilion to the larger Bon Kai Youth Center, where beds, bedding, and sanitation facilities have been prepared. The governor also met with displaced families, especially children and the elderly, to assess urgent needs such as clothing and school uniforms. Authorities pledged to continue damage assessments, coordinate assistance, and closely monitor conditions at the shelter.
