Electrolux Empowers Bangkok Students as Food Heroes
Electrolux Thailand hosted its third annual Food Heroes program for 100 primary students at a Bangkok school, teaching them about food sustainability, waste reduction, and healthy eating through interactive workshops. Over 40 employee volunteers guided the children through the "food journey" from farm to table and helped them create fruit smoothies, awarding each participant an "I Am Food Hero" certificate. The global initiative has reached over 400,000 youth across 40 countries since its launch.
Electrolux Thailand organized the "Electrolux Thailand Food Heroes 2026" project, mobilizing over 40 employee volunteers to conduct educational activities on food, health, and the environment for 100 primary school students at Wat Uthai Tharam School in Bangkok. Held during World Food Week in October, the program aims to instill mindful eating habits in youth, focusing on reducing food waste, consuming nutritious plant-based foods, and sharing knowledge with families and communities for environmental sustainability. According to the UNEP Food Waste Index Report 2024, households worldwide discarded the equivalent of over 1 billion meals daily in 2022.
The Electrolux Food Foundation launched the global Food Heroes initiative for youth, recognizing that early food education is a crucial starting point for building positive role models in every society. To date, the program has created over 400,000 Food Heroes across more than 40 countries worldwide, including Thailand, which is hosting the event for the third year.
The project educates children by exploring the "Food Journey" from farming and transportation to food purchasing, home cooking, eating behaviors, and waste reduction. This helps children understand that every meal relies on resources like soil, water, energy, and human labor. They then learn practical Food Hero principles for daily life, with Electrolux volunteers sharing knowledge and leading fun, simple cooking activities.
This year's cooking workshop was a "Fruit Smoothie" session where children selected their favorite fruits to create their own healthy drinks. Volunteers acted as mentors, guiding them closely and preparing tasty beverages. Afterwards, the children received "I Am Food Hero" certificates from Electrolux for being positive role models.
Bernard Chong, President of Electrolux Group Asia Pacific, stated: "We believe sustainable change begins by planting knowledge and awareness about the value of food from a young age. The Food Heroes program is not just a learning activity for children; it also passes concepts and inspiration from schools to families and communities. We are proud to help Thai youth grow into citizens who are conscious of the impact of their daily consumption and cooking choices, working together to drive a sustainable future for society and the environment."
