Former IBF Champion Arrested After Drunken Rampage in Chon Buri
Former IBF boxing champion Amnuay Ruenrueng was arrested after a drunken rampage in Chon Buri's Sri Racha district on September 2, just hours after completing a three-month rehabilitation program.
On the evening of September 2, residents near Rai Kluay Temple in Sri Racha district, Chon Buri province, called rescue workers to report a drunk man causing a disturbance. Officers found the man to be Amnuay Ruenrueng, a former Thai national amateur boxer and IBF flyweight world champion (112 pounds). Wearing only short denim shorts, he appeared intoxicated, was speaking incoherently, and was throwing objects. He had arrived that morning from Ubon Ratchathani province after completing a three-month rehabilitation program with Johnny Handsome, a well-known retired police officer. Amnuay was intoxicated and talking to himself, throwing items and creating a commotion. Officers escorted him away to prevent public concern. He then went to rev up a motorcycle in front of the temple before driving away recklessly. Chatchawal Tumwijit, a municipal council member, noted that residents reported the disturbance and confirmed Amnuay was severely intoxicated, speaking nonsensically, and inappropriately dressed. Though Amnuay had high hopes for redemption and restoring his reputation after his rehabilitation, his actions on his first day back deeply disappointed the Sri Racha community. As a world champion, it is regrettable that he squandered this opportunity, and concerned parties are urged to monitor his behavior as it poses potential danger to children and adults.
